Hey, I’m Iona, a Scottish folksinger from Huntly in Aberdeenshire now based in Glasgow after graduating from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland with a degree in Traditional Music. I’m performing at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe this year, and I need to shift 50 tickets in two days to pretty much break even. 😱

My music isn’t viral, or popping off. But it does stand for something. I sing in the Doric dialect of the Scots language and my repertoire spans folksongs, traditional ballads, translations and self-penned songs. I’m passionate preserving our traditions and cultural heritage, about telling Scotlands stories through song.

My show isn’t at the main hubbub of the Fringe up on Royal Terrace. It’s out of folks way, so I rely heavily on getting word out before hand. There won’t be passers-by who might pop their heads in.

I managed to sell out my show in 2025, but this year, I’ve been over in the US on tour for most of July and August, and marketing has just fallen by the wayside. @GerryHassan I do not see it as Nat loyalty at all. The first minister represents us and also if I recall correctly he visited businesses who are vital to the whisky industry to continue to press the case to drop the tariffs. So no I do not see it as a waste of money. Everything is context
