We did it this way because the vans kept getting stuck in traffic so it was faster...

(also our bike plus trailer could carry more (250) than could be fitted in the van they were using(170))

Significantly better sightlines than many SUVs, for e.g.

Then - it's all about managing who can get into your blind spot. Agree that a child could just about get in there and be unsighted, if you let them.
