WHAT NEUROSCIENCE STARTED TO SHOW IN 2026
The first months of 2026 brought an important message for those following neuroscience: the brain is not being “decoded” all at once.
It is being read with more precision, more technology, and also more caution.
Three movements stand out.
The first is the growing convergence between neuroscience and artificial intelligence. This is not only about using AI to analyze brain images or large datasets. The more interesting path goes in the opposite direction: using principles of the brain — embodiment, prediction, learning, energy efficiency, and interaction with the environment — to rethink AI systems that are less brittle and less abstract.
The second is the advance of brain-computer interfaces. The promise is no longer merely experimental. In several countries, systems designed to restore communication, movement, or autonomy are moving from the laboratory toward real-world applications. This opens important clinical possibilities, but also raises ethical questions about the body, decision-making, neural privacy, and access.
The third is the need for greater rigor. Some brain-mapping methods, once used enthusiastically to link lesions, circuits, and symptoms, are now being re-evaluated. This matters: mature science is not science that never makes mistakes. It is science capable of correcting its own instruments.
There are also relevant advances in psychedelics, neurodevelopment, Alzheimer’s disease, reward circuits, and brain models. But perhaps the main lesson is different: neuroscience is moving away from easy answers.
The brain is not a transparent machine.
It is body, history, language, memory, affect, environment, culture, and time.
For clinical practice, leadership, and mental health, this matters. No human decision arises from information alone. It arises from a situated organism, crossed by emotions, expectations, bodily marks, and relationships.
Perhaps the future of neuroscience is not to replace listening with data.
It is to understand that no data speaks by itself.
It must be interpreted.
And when it comes to the human, interpretation without ethics becomes only sophisticated technique.

A leitura lacaniana

Legal Language Excludes Those Who Need Law Most Access to justice, discourse, and the subject who does not fit the process
Law speaks its own language.
Latin, technical jargon, syntactic structures that require specialized training to be understood.
This opacity is not neutral.
It distributes power unequally.
Global data
The World Justice Project indicates that more than 5 billion people live outside the effective reach of legal protection (https://t.co/XoIxbWAvTd).
Vulnerable populations arrive at the legal system without understanding their rights, their obligations, or the consequences of what they sign and what they say.
The Lacanian reading
The law is, above all, a discourse.
And every discourse produces a place for the one who speaks and a place for the one who is spoken about.
In legal discourse, the popular subject rarely occupies the position of the one who speaks.
They occupy the position of the one who is spoken about.
Final thesis
A law that is not understood is not law.
It is power exercised over those who have no means to respond.
Simplifying legal language does not impoverish the law.
It fulfills its most basic promise: to be accessible to all who need protection.
The democratization of law does not begin in courts.
It begins in language.

TRANSPARENCY IS NOT TRUTH: WHAT LAW STILL CANNOT DEMAND FROM ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCESince 2 August 2026, the transparency obligations established by Article 50 of the European AI Act have been applicable.Synthetic content must be identifiable. Deepfakes and certain AI-generated texts concerning matters of public interest must be disclosed. Individuals must be informed when they are interacting with a machine.This is an important legal development. Yet there is a structural difference between identifying the origin of content and understanding the decision-making regime that produced it.A label may state: “AI-generated.”It does not necessarily disclose:— which data shaped the response; — which exclusions determined the outcome; — where human intervention occurred; — who is accountable for an error; — how the recommendation affected a clinical, legal or institutional decision.Technical transparency identifies provenance. Responsibility requires locating the act.Neuroscience has already shown that human decisions are not entirely conscious, linear or accessible to introspection. Psychoanalysis adds something even more unsettling: the subject does not fully command the reasons behind their own speech.When an institution transfers part of a decision to an algorithmic system, it does not eliminate opacity. It adds another layer.The contemporary problem is not merely distinguishing the human from the machine. It is preventing each from using the other as an alibi . AI-assisted decision remains an institutional decision. A machine may calculate. It cannot assume legal responsibility, sustain clinical listening or answer ethically for the effects of its act.Identifying artificial content is the beginning of transparency. Never its endpoint.
The Feminine Is Not a Theme – Pedro Tavares –
It is a way of questioning how a culture organizes what it cannot master.
When the feminine is reduced to an image, it loses its strength.
When reduced to an identity, it loses its openness.
When reduced to delicacy, it loses its power to disrupt.
In psychoanalysis, the feminine touches upon a different logic.
Not the logic of essence.
Not the logic of classification.
Not the logic of a pre-assigned place.
But the logic of that which does not fully close in on itself.
Perhaps that is why the feminine is so often segregated: not because it is fragile, but because it disrupts the claim to totality.
When listened to, the feminine does not confirm the world.
It reveals where the world fails.
BRAZIL BETWEEN TWO POWERS: RARE EARTHS ARE NOT JUST MINERALS
Brazil has once again become central to the competition for critical minerals.
Not because it has chosen a side.
But because both the United States and China need something located within its territory.
Rare earth elements are used in defense systems, wind turbines, electric vehicles, electronics, and advanced technologies. International dependence on supply chains controlled by China has transformed these minerals into a matter of national security.
According to a recent [Associated Press report](https://t.co/V9P0dLGVZx), Brazil holds one of the world’s largest known rare-earth reserves and is attracting capital from the United States, Australia, and Canada.
The economic opportunity is clear.
So is the strategic problem.
Holding reserves does not mean controlling the chain
A country may extract a mineral while remaining dependent on other countries to process, refine, industrialize, and incorporate it into higher-value products.
Under this model, the territory supplies raw material.
Technology, financing, and control of the value chain remain abroad.
Mineral sovereignty is not merely the ability to prevent a resource from being taken away. It is the capacity to determine how it will be exploited, where it will be processed, what knowledge will be transferred, and how much value will remain within the country.
Without these decisions, Brazil may simply exchange one dependency for another.
China is not absent
The competition extends beyond rare earths.
In 2025, Brazil became the world’s leading destination for Chinese outbound investment, receiving approximately US$6.1 billion, according to data reported by [Reuters](https://t.co/0TAO4FRquJ). Energy, mining, automotive manufacturing, logistics, and digital services were part of this movement.
Chinese capital does not arrive only through acquisitions.
It reorganizes infrastructure, production chains, and long-term dependencies.
Western capital does the same.
The difference lies in the instruments, conditions, and strategic horizon of each power.
The error of binary choice
Brazilian foreign policy is often discussed as if the country had to choose between the United States and China.
That formulation already represents a loss of position.
A middle power does not expand its autonomy by declaring loyalty in advance. It does so by negotiating with several centers of power while preventing any single one from gaining exclusive control over strategic sectors.
This requires:
* industrial processing within Brazil;
* effective technology transfer;
* independent environmental oversight;
* protection of affected communities;
* diversification of investors;
* limits on foreign control of critical infrastructure.
Foreign capital does not eliminate sovereignty.
The absence of a national strategy does.
## The resource and time
Critical minerals are strategic not only because they are scarce.
They are strategic because they connect today’s industry to tomorrow’s technology.
Those who control extraction obtain revenue.
Those who control processing accumulate capacity.
Those who control technology establish dependency.
Brazil can still negotiate from a privileged position. But that position is not permanent. Once contracts, infrastructure, and logistical chains have been consolidated, changing direction will become far more costly.
The question is not whether the United States or China wants Brazilian resources.
Both do.
The question is whether Brazil knows what it intends to receive in return.
THE BRAIN DOES NOT WAIT FOR CERTAINTY TO DECIDE
Decision-making is usually presented as the final result of an analysis: first we gather information, then evaluate possibilities, and finally choose.
The brain does not operate so neatly.
It begins preparing a decision while it is still trying to understand the situation.
A 2026 study examined how default options influence decisions under risk and ambiguity. The findings suggest that this influence can be identified in frontal brain activity only a few hundred milliseconds after the alternatives are presented.
Before the subject formulates a justification, the choice has already begun to acquire direction.
Risk is not ambiguity
Under risk, probabilities are approximately known.
Under ambiguity, even the probabilities cannot be calculated with confidence.
This distinction matters because the brain tends to respond more defensively to ambiguity than to measurable risk. A possible loss may be tolerated when it appears calculable. The indeterminate offers no such protection.
Contemporary neuroscience of uncertainty indicates that the brain does not process every form of uncertainty at the same level. Sensory, contextual, and strategic uncertainties are hierarchically integrated to guide behavior.
There is no single center that simply “makes the decision.”
There are systems that estimate, anticipate, correct, and compete over the meaning of what has not yet happened.
The preference for what is already in place
When one option appears as the default, rejecting it requires more than selecting an alternative.
It requires interrupting an established direction.
This is why forms, contracts, digital interfaces, and institutional procedures rely on predetermined settings. The default does not formally compel the individual, but it silently organizes the field of choice.
The subject remains free to refuse.
But the decision no longer occurs under neutral conditions.
Law asks whether a valid expression of will occurred.
Neuroscience adds another question: how did the environment organize that will before it was expressed?
Psychoanalysis introduces a third: why must the subject believe that the decision originated entirely within the self?
Justification comes later
Consciousness does not always produce the choice.
Sometimes it produces its narrative.
This does not mean that every decision is unconscious or biologically determined. It means that the declared reason does not exhaust the forces participating in the act.
Desire, fear, repetition, expectation, and one’s position toward the Other do not disappear when a coherent explanation is offered.
Coherence may come later.
The decision may have begun earlier.
To decide is to produce a cut
We do not wait for certainty because complete certainty would make decision unnecessary.
When everything is determined, all that remains is execution.
A genuine decision occurs where information is incomplete, alternatives conflict, and something may be lost. It does not eliminate uncertainty. It interrupts its duration.
To decide is not to discover the perfect alternative.
It is to accept that, after the cut, the rejected possibilities will remain present as absence.
The brain anticipates.
Consciousness explains.
The subject answers.
The "contemporary" is not in the act itself—which, as you said, is ancient and common—but in the condition of possibility for that act in our time. What makes this scene specific to today is its relationship with the symbolic and with the technology that mediates it.
O contemporâneo é a perda do segredo compartilhado.
The contemporary is the loss of the shared secret. In the past, this practice existed in the "intimacy of the Clinic and of People's Lives," but as an unsaid knowledge, a silent pact. It was a shared transgression, a jouissance that lived on the margins of discourse, protected by a complicity that did not need to be named. The contemporary is the moment when this secret is exposed to the light of day, not as a scandal, but as data, as information, as a performance.
The contemporary is the transformation of the enigma into data. What was once the object of analysis, of a secret confession on the couch, is now content. It is filmed, posted, validated by links, transformed into a spectacle to be consumed. The subject who once practiced the act as an intimate enigma can now present himself as the "subject of urolagnic jouissance," an identity that can be performed and recognized. The clinic loses its monopoly on listening to the symptom.
Therefore, the contemporary is not the act, but its exposure and its transformation into discourse. It is the passage from a practice that existed in lack, in the unsaid, to a practice that seeks to exist in the said, in visibility, in validation. The contemporary is the anguish of a symptom that loses its place as a secret and, in order to continue existing, must expose itself to the gaze of the Other, seeking a new type of recognition that is no longer that of intimate complicity, but of public validation.
The contemporary, ultimately, is the crisis of the intimate. The act remains intimate in the body, but its condition of existence, its "soul," has become public. That is what makes it a symptom of our time.
A tela altera a presença.
THE CLINICAL ALLIANCE IS NOT A PACT OF CORDIALITY
In contemporary clinical discourse, the “therapeutic alliance” is often described as a harmonious relationship between two people: trust, acceptance, agreement, and cooperation.
But analysis is not sustained because analyst and analysand agree.
Sometimes it begins precisely when agreement fails.
In psychoanalysis, the clinical bond cannot be separated from transference. The subject does not address only the person before them. They also address the position attributed to that person: the one who supposedly knows, judges, abandons, demands, recognizes, or refuses.
What appears to be a relational difficulty is therefore not necessarily an external obstacle to treatment. It may be the very material of the analysis.
A 2024 meta-analysis found a small but consistent association between interpersonal difficulties before treatment and a weaker therapeutic alliance. What disrupts relationships outside the consulting room tends to return inside it.
This is not necessarily a failure of the clinical setting.
It is repetition entering the scene.
The clinical task is not to prevent every rupture. It is to identify what returns through the particular form of that rupture: silence, absence, delay, provocation, idealization, distrust, or the threat of abandonment.
The permanent preservation of a comfortable relationship can produce a paradoxical effect. The imaginary bond is protected, while the conflict organizing it remains unheard.
Contemporary research indicates that unaddressed ruptures can undermine treatment and contribute to dropout. The American Psychological Association now emphasizes the recognition and repair of alliance ruptures as a central element of clinical training.
This does not reduce psychoanalysis to a technique of emotional negotiation.
It confirms that the bond is not an ornament added to treatment. It is where the subject re-enacts a position toward desire, knowledge, and the Other.
Online treatment does not eliminate this structure. A systematic review of videoconferencing psychotherapy found no significant difference between therapeutic alliances established online and in person. Another meta-analysis of teletherapy found a small but significant association between alliance and clinical outcomes.
The screen changes presence.
It does not abolish transference.
To sustain Freud in the contemporary world is not to reproduce his historical conditions mechanically. It is to preserve his decisive discovery: the subject does not entirely control what is said and does not freely choose the form of every bond.
The clinical alliance does not require the absence of conflict.
It requires that conflict be given form, time, and words — without the analyst rushing to erase it.
The third party no one sees
When two people converse on a digital platform, there appear to be only two positions: the speaker and the responder.
But the scene is not quite that simple.
There is a third party.
The algorithm observes, classifies, distributes, restricts, amplifies, or renders invisible what has been said.
It does not participate in the conversation as a subject, yet it interferes with the conditions under which the conversation can exist.
This position is particularly interesting because it alters the very act of utterance.
We no longer write solely for someone.
We write simultaneously for a person, a potential audience, and a system that decides who will be able to find what we have written.
The algorithm does not need to comprehend the discourse the way we do.
It need only be capable of classifying it.
The consequence is structural.
An increasing share of public life unfolds before systems that do not merely record relationships—they come to shape them.
The question posed by the CLARA Framework is not simply:
“What was said?”
It is:
“Which third party participated in the scene without needing to speak?”
— CLARA Framework
Position. Discourse. Structure. Decision.
RADAR Framework
The problem is not lack of information. It is not knowing what changed.
We live surrounded by signals.
News. Data. Alerts. Trends. Statements. Metrics. Noise.
The contemporary problem is no longer simply obtaining information.
The problem is determining which information changes a decision.
That is where the RADAR Framework begins.
RADAR was not designed to produce more news, follow every event, or turn every recent fact into urgency.
Its function is different:
to detect change.
An event only becomes strategically relevant when it modifies at least one condition of the system:
power;
capability;
risk;
position;
behavior;
institution;
opportunity;
timing.
The central question, therefore, is not:
“What happened today?”
It is:
“What happened today that makes tomorrow different from yesterday?”
The difference seems small.
It is not.
Information is not a signal
Thousands of events can occur without changing the structure.
A political statement may generate headlines and alter no real capability.
A company may announce a technology and remain unable to implement it.
A platform may experience intense activity without producing any significant change in the behavior of its audience.
RADAR therefore distinguishes four levels:
Noise — attracts attention but does not alter the scenario.
Signal — may indicate change, but evidence is still insufficient.
Movement — there is an observable change in position or capability.
Structural change — the set of future possibilities is materially altered.
The objective is not to know more.
It is to rank better.
The problem of the continuous present
Digital platforms have created a kind of permanent present.
Everything happens now.
Everything appears urgent.
Everything demands a response.
But a system continuously subjected to alerts eventually loses precisely the capability it should develop:
discrimination.
If every signal has the same intensity, none of them functions as a signal.
RADAR interrupts this circuit.
Before reacting:
does this change the board?
If it does not, perhaps it does not deserve a decision.
Or an analysis.
Much less a publication.
Watching actors is not enough
RADAR also avoids another common mistake: following only what actors say.
Governments speak.
Companies announce.
Institutions issue statements.
Markets construct narratives.
But capability is not discourse.
It is also necessary to observe:
resources;
technology;
legislation;
logistics;
alliances;
financing;
infrastructure;
behavior;
dependencies;
capacity to execute.
A statement may be intense and structurally irrelevant.
A minor regulatory change may look technical and transform an entire market.
Timing is also information
A good reading can still produce a poor decision if it occurs at the wrong moment.
RADAR therefore does not analyze only what happened.
It analyzes when that event becomes actionable.
Some signals require immediate intervention.
Others require observation.
Others need time to mature.
And some disappear when they receive too much attention too early.
Strategic decision-making is not simply:
act or do not act.
It may be:
act now, wait, investigate, prepare, or abandon.
RADAR does not predict the future
This distinction is essential.
The objective is not to turn uncertainty into prophecy.
RADAR works precisely because the future remains open.
Its function is to identify:
which changes have increased or reduced certain possibilities.
Not:
“this will happen.”
But:
“if this movement continues, certain consequences become more likely.”
The difference between prediction and scenario reading is also a difference in responsibility.
From geopolitics to markets
The method can be applied to different objects.
In geopolitics:
who gained the capacity to act?
In business:
which variable changed enough to alter a decision?
In artificial intelligence:
which development is merely a technical demonstration, and which one is beginning to change real processes?
On platforms:
are we facing a temporary fluctuation in reach, or a change in the distribution regime?
In institutions:
was there only a change in discourse, or did the rules themselves change?
Different objects.
The same structural question:
what actually changed?
RADAR within the ecosystem
RADAR does not replace CLARA or QUALIA.
The three operate at different levels.
RADAR detects change.
QUALIA examines the experience produced.
CLARA reads positions, discourse, power, and structure.
Sometimes an object requires all three.
Sometimes only one.
That modularity is deliberate.
A method loses strength when it forces every problem into the same sequence.
The final criterion
Information overload creates an illusion:
the more we follow, the more prepared we are.
Not always.
Sometimes we are simply busier.
RADAR starts from a different discipline:
eliminate information that does not change a decision.
Because strategic intelligence does not consist in reacting to everything.
It consists in recognizing the moment when something ceased to be just another event.
And began to alter the field of possibilities.
RADAR Framework
Detect the signal.
Read the change.
Decide the timing.

Title: Memory Saturation and the Erosion of the Unconscious: How Information Overload Mutes Psychic Formations
Subtitle: How excessive data processing closes attentional gaps, preventing slips of the tongue, dreams, and creative emergence.
The psychoanalytic unconscious operates in the margin, the failure, the pun, and the lapse. Freud and Lacan demonstrated that the subject's truth does not emerge in hyper-structured conscious discourse, but in the interstices — moments when vigilant attention waivers, allowing the repressed to surface.
The functioning of the hyperconnected brain systematically blocks this attentional wavering. Working memory, managed by the prefrontal cortex and parietal networks, possesses a limited capacity for active information storage. When bombarded by an uninterrupted flow of notifications, data, and visual inputs, attentional loops remain in a state of continuous cognitive overload.
Neurobiologically, this constant overload prevents the brain's spontaneous transition into the Default Mode Network (DMN), which is essential for long-term memory consolidation, self-reflection, and creative ideation.
Without gaps in attention, the unconscious loses its stage of manifestation. The contemporary subject becomes hyper-informed yet disconnected from their own unconscious truth, trading the depth of psychic elaboration for a sterile accumulation of fragmented data.
Shielding the boundaries of working memory against information overload is not merely a measure of neurobiological hygiene; it is the ethical prerequisite for the subject to continue creating, dreaming, and desiring.

Circuito de Recompensa, Perfeccionismo e o Imperativo do Super-Eu. The Algorithmic Superego: The Neuroscience of Guilt and Exhaustion

The Algorithmic Superego: The Neuroscience of Guilt and Exhaustion in the Performance Regime
Subtitle: The convergence of the psychoanalytic imperative of jouissance and the neurobiological drive for continuous optimization.
Jacques Lacan conceptualizes the Superego not as a peaceful moral compass, but as a tyrannical agency whose fundamental command is paradoxical: "Enjoy!". It is an imperative voice demanding endless performance, optimization, and flawless presence, turning rest into a source of crushing guilt.
In digital social culture, this Superego imperative gains technological reinforcement. Constant validation via engagement metrics engages the mesocorticolimbic pathway, creating a cycle of dopaminergic anticipation that ties the subject's worth to their productivity and digital visibility.
However, the neurobiological cost of striving for flawless performance is severe. Sustained activation of the sympathetic nervous system and chronic elevation of cortisol levels downregulate glucocorticoid receptors in the brain, driving adrenal fatigue, anhedonia, and clinical burnout.
Digital perfectionism and the drive for constant self-optimization represent the modern submission to the Superego. The more the subject strives to meet the metrics demanded by ideal ego constructs, the more inadequate they feel.
Escaping the exhaustion trap requires recognizing the impossibility of satisfying this unyielding demand. Setting a boundary against the performance imperative is the sole path toward preserving neurobiological integrity and the freedom to desire.

O humano produz a instituição. A instituição reorganiza o humano.
A Psicanálise introduz outro corte.
O frame investiga:
qual mundo essa afirmação ajuda a produzir;
que posição ela oferece ao sujeito;
que autoridade ela instala;
o que torna visível e o que mantém fora de cena;
que decisão prepara;

METAPOIESIS: HUMANS CREATE THE WORLD THAT THEN CREATES THEM
From Sapiens to the CLARA Framework: language, institutions, and discursive regimes
The video “The Origin of Sapiens”, inspired by the opening chapter of Sapiens, begins with a decisive displacement: throughout most of its existence, the genus Homo occupied no sovereign position on Earth. Different human species coexisted, disappeared, and interbred. Humanity did not emerge complete, separate, or destined to rule.
In Yuval Noah Harari’s account, a fundamental transformation occurs when human groups become capable of collectively sustaining realities that do not exist merely as natural objects. Myths, norms, currencies, states, religions, and institutions enable strangers to coordinate action on a scale unavailable to other animals.
This does not mean that humans escaped biology. It means that biology began to coexist with a second order of causality: the symbolic order.
This opening chapter does not yet use the term metapoiesis. It does, however, prepare the problem Harari will name later: the production of a second layer of reality made of shared narratives, classifications, and institutions.
From autopoiesis to metapoiesis
Humberto Maturana and Francisco Varela developed the concept of autopoiesis to understand a living system as an organization that continuously produces the components and boundaries that make its own existence possible.
Metapoiesis is a term Harari uses later in his work; it does not appear in the opening chapter of Sapiens.
The CLARA Framework does not claim to have created it. It takes the concept as an analytical operator: the human capacity to produce symbolic worlds that, once instituted, begin producing positions, conduct, and subjects in return.
Money is material, but its value is not contained in its material. A border may be marked on the ground, but its force depends on legal, political, and military systems. A company, a profession, a court ruling, or a diagnostic category exists because human networks assign it status, authority, and consequences. Social philosophy describes the importance of collective intentionality: the capacity of many minds to be jointly directed toward objects, rules, values, and purposes.
Such constructions are not unreal. They are realities that produce effects precisely because they are sustained, repeated, and recognized.
Humans produce institutions. Institutions reorganize humans. We produce language, yet we are born into a world already divided by words we did not choose. We create classifications and then recognize ourselves through them. We build decision systems that soon determine which decisions can be regarded as possible.
This recursive movement is metapoiesis.
The brain does not simply receive a ready-made world
The connection with neuroscience requires precision. The brain is not a passive mirror of the external world. Contemporary models describe perception as continuous work involving prediction, comparison, and correction. In Karl Friston’s free-energy principle, several theories of brain function converge on the idea that organisms seek to reduce surprise and update their models in response to incoming signals.
This does not reduce the subject to the brain. It shows that perception already involves selection, anticipation, and organization.
The perceived world is not arbitrarily invented, but neither does it arrive without mediation.
The subject is not the sovereign author of discourse
Psychoanalysis introduces another cut. The subject speaks, but is also spoken by words, positions, and forms of social bond that precede them.
A discursive regime does not merely describe reality. It distributes positions. It defines who may speak, who will be heard, what counts as evidence, which forms of suffering will be recognized, and which decisions will appear inevitable.
This is where the CLARA Framework operates. Its question is not limited to whether a statement is true or false. The framework examines:
what world the statement helps produce;
what position it offers the subject;
what authority it installs;
what it makes visible and what it keeps outside the scene;
what decision it prepares;
and what repetition it turns into the appearance of evidence.
The species that fabricates its own conditions
Homo sapiens did not become historically decisive merely by possessing a larger brain or better tools. It became capable of coordinating large groups through shared narratives, norms, and institutions.
Every symbolic creation, however, carries an ambiguity. It expands human possibilities while simultaneously creating new forms of subjection. Law protects and organizes; it also excludes. Science corrects illusions; it also produces classifications. Technology connects; it also reorganizes attention, desire, and decision. Artificial intelligence processes human discourse and returns new conditions for its circulation.
Metapoiesis names this circuit: we create structures that begin to participate in the creation of who we are.
The opening chapter of human history is therefore not only about the origin of a species. It is the beginning of a question that remains unresolved:
what kind of world are we producing — and what kind of subject is that world producing in us?

Title: The Economy of Capture: The Brain's Salience Network Under the Tyranny of Recommendation Algorithms
Subtitle: How digital architecture reconfigures neural attentional mapping and liquidates the capacity for contemplation and desire.
Neuroplasticity — the nervous system's capacity to reorganize its structure and function in response to experience — is frequently celebrated through a naive lens of personal optimization. What cognitive neuroscience reveals, however, is that neuroplasticity is a neutral vector: the brain adapts with equal efficiency to analytical depth or to attentional hyper-fragmentation.
The Salience Network, anchored in the anterior insula and anterior cingulate cortex, is responsible for selecting which environmental stimuli warrant priority processing. Big Tech's engagement engineering was specifically designed to hack this network, firing alerts of uncertainty and social relevance that lock the brain into a state of chronic vigilance.
In Lacanian terms, the object of desire is captured and reduced to objet petit a in its most degraded form: the momentary stimulus that promises immediate satisfaction but delivers only the restart of the consumption cycle. Attention, once dedicated to the elaboration of thought and creation, is converted into unpaid labor training algorithmic models.
The neurobiological consequence of salience capture is the atrophy of reflective thought and the inability to tolerate the logical time of understanding. Where there is no space for the pause, the imperative of automatic reaction takes over.
Preserving neural plasticity beyond digital colonization is an ethical urgency. It requires reintroducing deliberate cuts in the relationship with screens, restoring the capacity to sustain focus and singular desire.
