Nearly 25 years ago I gave Super a Mario Sunshine a 9.4 at IGN.
2002… You have to understand things like tight, uncontested controls and visual achievements were wondrous. The draw distance over the shimmering ocean! The bouncy rubber-band trapeze walking!
The story sucks. The pachinko level was uncharacteristically broken. Cam-meh-ra for sure. But most of the game was a rare pinnacle of 3D gaming’s potential at the time.
Super Mario Sunshine walked so Galaxy could run.
