Ronald Reagan was no fan of tariffs. In this short clip from a radio address that Reagan gave on April 25, 1987, President Regan shared his feelings about the subject of protectionist economic policies in general and tariffs in particular.
I am not attacking Trump or the Republican party.
I am just saying that those of us who are still students of Reagan conservatism are surprised by the direction that President Trump is taking with tariffs.
It just isn’t ideologically conservative in terms of the established conservative norms around free markets.
