Comics writer/producer - POLIS: The Trial of Socrates, Lesbian Zombies from Outer Space, & TWEETS from the End of the World. -- I only do overly long titles.
@marcportermagee As a 9-year old in the 80s, I never read for fun.
But as a 12-year-old, I was reading for fun way more than anyone else my age. (Because I found books that no school or parent would ever recommend.)
@S_Mikhailovich I watched a bunch of '41-'44 movies lately, many of them directly talking about the war (from Allies side).
It's a pretty interesting perspective. Most project optimism, but many end with something like, "And we're still fighting today! Buy Liberty Bonds!"
@theerealtao And even that hierarchical order, in some sense, is objective. Again, insofar as A leads to, and/or supports, B; but C hampers and/or undermines B.
Objective facts still sometimes require testing and debate.
@theerealtao Now, values are by definition subjective, in that a subject is required to do the valuing.
But values have a hierarchy, and in order to live together in a society, at least the top of that hierarchy has to be agreed on.
@Bananas_R_Silly@ManDaveJobGood (In California it's a bit different from the norm, since many races are between Democrats; Republicans aren't even represented.)
@Bananas_R_Silly@ManDaveJobGood I think voting "republican" or "democrat" because you identify as "republican" or "democrat" is a different kind of stupid.
I was referring to people who identify as "democrat" (or republican), yet don't even have enough understanding to know/select their particular candidate.
@ManDaveJobGood I just don't understand people who allow someone else to make voting choices for them. If you don't have enough info to make a choice, then don't vote.
(Or write in "Mickey Mouse" or something, like I do for most judge spots.)
@ManDaveJobGood There was a guy in my office who'd regularly volunteer and help people fill out their ballots to best reflect a proper Democrat approach.
He had no intention to destroy the city/state. He believed he was doing good. Presumably the people who gave their ballots also thought so.
@kausmickey There IS a difference in email wording between the current and previous elections. The only question is, were the earlier "counted" emails lies, or is the current "accepted" email a case of CYA?
