Regardless of what we each think of the cartoon, the comment thread illuminates the need for us each on all sides of the issue to find ways to disagree with the ideas without resorting name calling, jumping to assumptions, defensiveness and the quick fire retort.
As a former @PhillyNewsGuild president, I'd ask how you can fire a political cartoonist for drawing a political cartoon? The cartoon in question is sure to make some people angry, but political cartooning is a job with a long and proud history of making people uncomfortable.

Might it be a positive sign that he was held accountable and that Der Spiegel is studying how to reduce the possibility this will happen again?
When did we last hear Fox news hold itself accountable this way?
