I’m happy to share that I have joined @pennsurgery to work on my passion project with a passionate team on making surgical education accessible to every student in the world.
New work published in @EJVES_ESVS shows Zone 2 #TEVAR often requires left subclavian artery revascularization, traditionally achieved with carotid-subclavian bypass. This study compares outcomes of thoracic branch endoprosthesis (TBE) versus CS bypass, providing important insights into both short- and long-term results for complex aortic arch repair.

New research published in JTCVS Open highlights unexpected nodal disease carries a significant cost. In a large national cohort, upstaging occurred in 13% of lung adenocarcinoma resections and was associated with worse survival than clinically node positive patients treated with neoadjuvant therapy.

New research coming out of Cardiac Surgery
on aortic valve replacement in dialysis patients highlights the complexity of prosthesis selection in the TAVR era.
No significant 5-year survival difference between bioprosthetic and mechanical SAVR, while SAVR showed worse early but improved long-term survival vs TAVR. High bleeding risk and poor overall survival persisted across all groups.

The Penn Aorta Center team showed up strong today at the 2026 Philadelphia Walk for Victory, supporting patients and families living with Marfan syndrome, Loeys-Dietz syndrome, VEDS, and related aortic conditions.
Walking side by side with the community we care for every day was a powerful reminder of why this work matters.
Huge thanks to team leader Dr. Grace Wang and everyone who joined, cheered, donated, and supported us. Together, we’re advancing care, research, awareness, and victory for every patient. #MarfanWalk #WalkForVictory #PennAortaCenter #AorticHealth
Beginning tomorrow, the @PennCardiology X account will no longer be active.
Follow @PennMedicine and @PennMDForum for cardiology/cardiac surgery news and updates.
Important research led by PI @JPascual2016 highlighting the limitations of pulse oximetry in detecting occult hypoxemia and the ongoing need for equitable, accurate monitoring in critical care and perioperative medicine.
Advancing patient safety starts with better data, better tools, and continued investigation.

ICYMI… A huge thank you to Dr. Katherine Gallagher (@BTBKGMD) from for serving as yesterday’s Clyde F. Barker, MD Invited Lecturer and helping kick off the 4th Annual Ali Naji, MD, PhD Resident Research Day!
It was an inspiring start to a day filled with innovation, collaboration, and the future of surgical research.
This is particularly relevant in light of the Nature papers on multi agent scientific discovery recently published.
It is up to us as a society to determine how we proceed and to shape our futures

Latest @PennPlasticSurg article in @prsjournal presents new evidence in implant-based breast reconstruction continues to support the evolution toward prepectoral placement with obvious benefits vs. tradeoffs compared to subpectoral reconstruction, as surgeons are willing to accept the higher complication profile for improved quality of life. Important insights for patient-centered breast reconstruction decisions. #PlasticSurgery #BreastReconstruction #Prepectoral #Subpectoral #BreastCancer
