Kyle Dubas stood at a podium yesterday and basically pitched Auston Matthews on coming to Pittsburgh without ever saying his name.
That was just one of several things worth paying attention to from his end-of-season presser.
We broke it all down. 👇
The WBS Penguins locked it down in the final frame, taking Game 1 with a 2-0 shutout victory over the Thunderbirds.
It was a complete performance from start to finish, highlighted by a massive pro debut from Zonnon and a brick wall effort in net.
GOAL. Tanner Howe. 2-0 WBS.
Tanner Howe sends himself on a breakaway and scores to extend #WBSPens lead to 2-0 with 12:41 left in the 3rd. @InsideAHLHockey
Through two periods, WBS leads 1-0.
Bill Zonnon’s debut goal is the difference so far. Despite some shaky officiating and a strange tripping call on Tanner Howe, the PK has remained perfect.
The Pens are in the driver's seat heading into the 3rd.
Bill Zonnon has officially arrived!
The rookie finds the back of the net to give the baby Pens their first goal of the game, delivering exactly the kind of impact the front office was looking for in his professional debut.
Baby Pens lead 1-0 here in the 2nd.
It’s 0-0 after the first period of Game 1 between the WBS Penguins and Thunderbirds.
Baby Pens are generating plenty of chances and looks dangerous in the offensive zone, but they need to start finishing at the net.
A bad turnover nearly cost them on a Springfield breakaway, and the penalty kill was a bit slow to clear the zone, but they survived the opening frame unscathed.
Solid start as we head to the intermission.
Kyle Dubas said that Pittsburgh is a destination talented young players in their mid- to late-20s should want to go if they have "some control over their situation." #LetsGoPens
