Grassroots volunteer org in WA State advocating for equitable public safety. We adhere to ACLU principles but don't work for or officially represent the ACLU.
Sign in PRO, contact members of the committee, or submit written testimony to demand that behavioral health crises receive the same quality and consistency as the response to a heart attack, stroke, or any other health emergency! 3/3

🚨Seattle/State Leg ACTION ALERT
If you are part of the 80% of Seattle voters who support civilianized crisis response to low-priority calls, take 30s to sign in PRO to HB 1816 by TOMORROW at 9:30a! 1/3

A behavioral health crisis is not a crime and warrants quality care and rapid response.
HB 1816 paves the way for mental health crisis response that follows national best practice standards and minimizes law enforcement contact

Contact your council members and the Mayor directly and demand that both the license plate data is stored on-premise at SPD and that retention period be reduced to 3 minutes or at most 48 hours. 3/3 https://t.co/tRlIEojZQ7
Seattle: City Council is in the process of launching an ALPR (Automatic License Plate Reader) Expansion Program which includes moving the on-premise database of license plate reads to an off premise, cloud-hosted database managed by Axon, a third-party, private company. 1/3
This change will enable other states to circumvent WA state’s Shield Law and Keep WA Working Act, which are meant to protect both women seeking reproductive healthcare and immigrant workers. 2/3
i am so angry that after nearly SIX years of waiting for the SPOG contract to come out from closed door negotiations, we were only given 1 minute for public comment.
here's what i would have said with a whole 2 minutes: 🧵
Shannon has the most insight and expertise around the SPOG contract of anyone I know; she's been working on this since at least the 2017 Accountability Ordinance. Please read what she has to say, and here's a helpful link to email City Council: https://t.co/PXRsOzFIJE
There is no evidence the current test is a real barrier to hiring. PSCSC should be allowed to fulfill their duties and choose the best exam for Seattle without undue pressure from City Council. Send an email now: https://t.co/J6Hvgohetx
Seattle ACTION ALERT. Oppose lowering the standards for SPD recruitment! Just takes a minute to send an email to Council before their Thursday meeting. https://t.co/J6Hvgohetx
Council is trying to pressure the PSCSC to change the entrance exam for potential police recruits. The current exam was developed with the consent decree in mind and has a ~70% pass rate. The new exam CM Nelson wants? Has a 90% pass rate.
