Bill Burr Asians in restaurants https://t.co/lkVe78ugF6. If you replace the word “restaurant” w/ #Harvard, racial discrimination by #Harvard Admissions are laughably obvious. Racial profiling & segregation still happens everyday in #Harvard Admissions.
I support bulldozing the #AffirmativeAction for a few reasons, the deepest of which two is 1, talents & hard work is a deeper value than equality; 2, AA failed to advocate the most political vulnerable, Asian Americans. With a numeric disadvantage, Asians cannot vote anyone out.
If all the Asian kids come with crazy merits like curing the cancer, starting non-profits, wining gold metals, inventing a TikTok replacement, they still cannot go over their 25% pool because you don’t want to have too many Asians at #Harvard. Isn’t that judgment of my color?
Asian male is by far the most competing applicant pool. All the Asian male applicants can race in their Asian male pool for 10% of Harvard admissions. Black kids race in their pool. White kids race in their pool. That is obvious racial segregation, discrimination, is it not?
I learned about the black kids walking to white schools when I was in China. MLK speech of judge me by my character not by my color resonated across the world. Yet #Harvard admissions is a segregated institution. Asians will compete with Asians for 25% quota no matter of merits.
#AffirmativeAction in edu has roots in the chinese lawsuit for ESL classes. If anyone deserves freebies, it’s the small kids. The younger they are, the more they deserve. That’s why universal pre-k should be freely available. Early Childhood Development has the highest ROI.
Once talent & hard work is established as the most core values in college admissions, merit should be the only deciding factor. #LegacyAdmissions should be struck down too like #AffirmativeAction. They are the flip sides of same big crying baby, crying “just give me” song.
More deeply than equality, is the value of talent & hard work. That’s why #NBA does not have a 25% Asian quota like #Harvard does. 25% Jewish quota, popular in 1920’s, went away eventually. 25% Asian quota #Harvard should go away too.
Politically, #AffirmativeAction failed to build an alliance with Asians, is in fact at the expense of Asians. It failed, rightfully so, because it failed a core value of advocating the most politically vulnerable.
My son was born 2 years ago. As I held, I wondered what kind of cancer he has to cure to be admitted to #Harvard. In the eyes of Harvard admissions, he is born with inferior personalities and character. He has to be the best student, athlete, leader I’ve ever seen to have a 15%.
@BarackObama#AffirmativeAction very much failed to recognize the struggle of Asians. The inclusion policy failed to include Asians. As long as it fails to do so, it remains a source of division and discrimination against Asians.
#whiteprivilege in the form of #LegacyAdmissions, and #AffirmativeAction squeeze out many Asian students. This exclusion continues beyond college admissions. Discrimination at the admissions office in fact is just the tip of the iceberg called Asian lives.
#AffirmativeAction It’s important to have more dialogue. Are Asians being discriminated in the admissions process? Yes!! Asian males in particular. It’s like black people driving a nice car stopped by a policer officer. “Hey, how did you get this nice car, you’re a drug dealer?”
Asian students are being stopped by admission officers, “hey how did you acccomplish so much? You must have bad personalities.” #AffirmativeAction failed miserably to recognize Asian discrimination to include Asian students. Inclusive policies exclude Asians. I lived through that
