Today marks the 33rd anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act #ADA33. Like many advances in society, the ADA didn't materialize out of nothing, instead it was hard won by advocates and groups like American Disabled for Attendant Programs Today.
Tactical urbanism was frequently employed as an act of defiance, wherein people would create curbs, lowered ramps in the sidewalk which allow easier access for folx like wheelchair users. While these ramps are now common place, before they symbols of resistance.
