Quick addition: if you check that address on a normal Kaspa explorer, it'll show zero transactions. That's normal, not a red flag.
These tokens don't sit at an address directly. They live inside a small contract, and the lock address is just the owner name on file, not a place holding coins.
Regular explorers only look for coins sitting directly at an address, so they see nothing. But the tokens are still there, locked inside the contract, owned by an address whose private key no one has ever had and no one will ever find.
๐ธ๐ Full transparency on $PEPE burning.
What we wanted: get rid of a batch of tokens permanently. A real burn.
What happened first: we tried sending them to a standard Kaspa burn address. That only works for regular $KAS. KCC20s like PEPE run on its own on chain ledger, where every token needs a valid registered owner, and the old burn address doesn't count as one. Kasware kept rejecting it with the error "malformed public key," which in plain English just means this isn't a valid owner for this token. Not a typo. Not a bug. That address was simply never going to work here.
Only the token's original issuer can actually really delete tokens from the ledger. Regular holders, us included, don't have access to that wallet.
๐ง What we did instead: we will send the tokens to a different kind of address. A lock with no key. It's a valid owner, so the wallet accepted it this time, but it was generated in a way that guarantees no one has ever had, or will ever find, the matching private key, us included.
Address used to burn:

Result: those tokens will sit forever in a dead end. Nobody can ever move them again, including us. Practically burned. ๐ฅ
The one technical nuance: they still show as locked in the ledger rather than disappearing from the supply count entirely.
In one line: only the issuer could truly burn this token, so we locked it out of circulation forever instead. Verifiably, on chain, for anyone to check.
