El-Sayed received the Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowship in 2012, which provided support for his graduate education. Now, Jeffrey Soros is hosting a fundraiser for El-Sayed’s U.S. Senate campaign, despite El-Sayed campaigning on getting “money out of politics.”

Jeffrey Soros, nephew of billionaire Democratic donor George Soros, said he has known Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed since 2012.

Soros said he interviewed El-Sayed as a finalist for the Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowship for New Americans. El-Sayed later won the fellowship.

The remarks came at a Los Angeles fundraiser hosted by Soros for El-Sayed, who has made getting big money out of politics a campaign theme.
