I'm very honored to have even been considered for this award. An award like this would not be possible without the support of many people including @VTTurfweeds @malherbologist @VTTurfgrass@auburnturf and especially my wife @cynthiaspeppers
The Musser International Turfgrass Foundation has selected Dr. John Peppers as its 2024 Award of Excellence recipient.

If you struggle with crabgrass on your greens or tees, it may be a good idea to change up your PGR program. Left photo is primo @ 6fl oz/a and right photo is cutless @ 12.3 floz/a. Both were applied every three weeks. No negative effects on the bentgrass with cutless this summer
I am elated to announce I will be starting as Assistant Professor of Turfgrass Science @UArkansas this August! Very excited to continue researching turf pathology as well as other areas of interest. I will have to learn the WOO PIG SOOIE chant!🐗 @ArkansasTurf
@ChristosDamalas I support it as long as the PhD student has passed their preliminary exams. Much can be learned from conducting reviews and the student has the advantage of having their advisor near at hand for guidance if needed
@DelaneyCaitlin_ I had a reviewer tell me that they couldn’t find anything particularly wrong with one of my papers, but it was just too boring for publication haha
Can Cutless or Trimmit be used to suppress summer annual grasses in your bentgrass putting greens? Early results indicate that Cutless and Trimmit are preventing the germination of smooth crabgrass. We’ll see if this can hold throughout the season
While it may seem like a good idea to combine Trimmit and Poacure to increase poa suppression, this combo can actually reduce poa control. This is two fall apps of poacure @ 0.6floz/M alone and combined with four fall apps of Trimmit. Always read and follow your herbicide labels
@KernsJim We have some lab work planned, but we’re not entirely sure. We expect that the damage caused by Trimmit is probably limiting the uptake of poacure. We should know more around the end of the year
@malherbologist Come on to VT, @VTTurfweeds has decided that he’s in the movie making business. He says that there’s potential for some music videos in the future. https://t.co/TOhViJIZOg
@BIGTurfTeaching @VAturf@VTTurfweeds Acclaim is pretty good for Japanese stiltgrass. The earlier you can hit it, the better. Pylex can control it as well, it will just take two apps
In the field, we saw that cutless programs were more effective than primo programs at keeping a (crappy) bentgrass putting green heavily infested with goosegrass clean. 1st pic is nontreated, 2nd pic is primo every two weeks and 3rd pic is cutless every 2 weeks. 3/3
Can your PGR program affect whether or not you get goose or crabgrass on your CBG putting greens? L-R: Nontreated, cutless, trimmit, primo, anuew. (A thread)
The roots of these plants. Goosegrass in the 1st pic and crabgrass in the 2nd. L-R: nontreated, 1 app cutless, 3 apps of cutless, 1 app of trimmit, 3 apps of trimmit, 1 app of primo, 3 apps of primo, 1 app of anuew, 3 apps of anuew. 2/3
