@AliceinDCland Before I transitioned I once gave myself shin splints because I was mad that someone said I was “jogging not running” on Reddit… I went on a fast run that wrecked my legs for months. Maybe these guys think they’re being “inspiring,” but they only succeed at being discouraging.
@CHRISF0GLE I’m so inspired I just purchased a copy of the Little, Brown Handbook… I need to revisit the intensive grammar lessons I was fortunate enough to receive in high school. DFW frustrates me at times, but there are few writers whose craft I respect more.
If you’re goth at the hardware store, your sole focus needs to be figuring out what items to pick up for your Einstürzende Neubauten cover band. It’s time to lock in.
Cal Raleigh after Tuesday's loss, via @RyanDivish:
"We're not playing well. That starts with me. I'm awful. I've got to find a way to be better and to help bring the guys along. We just gotta play better. We're just playing very, very, very bad baseball in every facet of the game."
@arnab_bunny I’d fall in the “frequent reader” category and 100% agree. I only read a book in a day if I have a ton of free time (e.g., interstate Amtrak trip) and the book is either short or unchallenging. Nothing wrong with book-a-day, but it requires a specific lifestyle and type of book.
@jezfrompeepshow I was bringing water bottles to school at least as far back as 2003, because one of my clearest memories from 6th grade was an 8th grader randomly punting my water bottle and saturating a huge swath of the hallway with it
@candlecav@sclv Fishwife is a lot of people’s first introduction to fancier tinned fish so it gets unfairly maligned; however, they make some good products (I particularly like their smoked trout and their anchovies). There are brands I like even more, but IMO the haters are obscurity signaling.
@WhatHoARat@filet_o_calvin Agreed. I liked it, but it was slow going for me. I found By Night in Chile and 2666 more gripping, personally. I think my significant chronological and regional distance from the 70s/80s Latin American literary scene was part of the issue — at times it reads like inside baseball
@cardamomkiss The Kerrygold unsalted/fancy cultured salted butter combo is a ball-knower move. Never had the Vermont Creamery butter but I’m sure it’s quite good.
