a PERsonalized MIcrobiome-Based Approach to Early Onset Colorectal Cancer PreventION, Diagnosis, and Management. @BMBF_Bund and @XgegenKrebs Consortium
Here we are!
PerMiCCion is a strategic alliance of world-leading researchers, commercial entities, and patient organizations working together to find microbiome-based solutions for young adult colorectal cancer. We are funded by the @BMBF_Bund and are part of the @XgegenKrebs.

We had a great kick-off meeting of MiCCrobioTAckle in Berlin!
We're still waiting for the PhD students to join us, but the PIs and collaborators are already so excited to get started on this project! :-)
Thrilled to introduce our new project on gut microbiome and cancer cachexia.
Follow us for fascinating research and great training opportunities across Europe.

Weitere Informationen: 👉 https://t.co/6f0phyqQzF
To study how modulating the gut microbiome (the bacteria and fungi living in our gut) can help people with colorectal cancer, scientists need to collect and analyze patient data.
Epidemiologists do this job. @Permiccion's work depends on analysing fully anonymised patient data and biosamples obtained in two large epidemiological studies: the German National Cohort (GNC/NAKO) and Colocare.
Patients sign an informed consent form, provide access to their clinical and lifestyle data, and grant permission to analyse samples collected by medical specialists (blood, stool, and tissue samples).
The participation of patients in epidemiological studies is essential to advance the research and help people suffering or at risk of colorectal cancer.
If you are interested in participating in a study, PerMiCCion is actively recruiting young patients (<50 years old), both with active colorectal cancer or recovered. More info👉 https://t.co/AEtVlOzN3E
Thrilled about my PostDoc @VickyDamerell presenting latest results from the @Permiccion consortium at the Heidelberg Postdoc Symposium! Looking forward to the exchange of ideas and connecting with the research community. @uniklinik_hd @NeliMUlrich @DKFZ@XgegenKrebs@BMBF_Bund
@Permiccion is studying how the gut microbiome (the bacteria and fungi living in our gut), the diet we consume, and other clinical and lifestyle factors affect the development of colorectal cancer in young adults.
To do so, scientists of diverse disciplines are working together.
Epidemiologists collect and analyze data from patients. Nutritional epidemiologists particularly study nutritional data, like dietary habits.
Medical informatics develops methods in statistical bioinformatics for the analysis of complex biomedical data.
Molecular oncologists identify the genes, metabolites, and proteins that are involved in the development of cancer.
Specialists in metagenomics analysis study the composition of the gut microbiome and its relationship with the human body by applying complex tools (including machine learning) to analyze huge amounts of genetic information.
The goal is to develop more targeted and effective strategies for the prevention and diagnosis of young colorectal cancer patients. With this, scientists want to improve the therapeutic outcome and quality of life of patients living with colorectal cancer.

Very informative podcast episode on the reasons behind the rise on cancer under-50.
Bowel cancer is one of the cancers whose incidence has risen most sharply in young adults in recent decades.
