Rhode Island's House just passed automated permitting and inspection reform for home solar and batteries. Thank you to Rep Boylan and the Ocean State Climate Alliance for making it happen ☀️⚡️
The House today voted to approve legislation from Rep. Jennifer Boylan to make solar systems easier and cheaper to install for Rhode Island residents.
“This bill is designed to help Rhode Islanders harness the energy of the sun by reducing the ‘soft costs’ of residential solar permitting and installation,” said Rep. Boylan. “By automating the permitting process for residential and small-scale solar, we can make clean energy more affordable, quicker to implement and removes inconsistencies from town to town. There’s no need to reinvent the wheel here, because the technology to improve the permitting process for everyone from homeowners, contractors and municipalities already exists. We just need to use it.”

The SUNNY Act passed both chambers of the New York legislature! Plug-in solar means lower energy bills within reach for millions of New York families ⚡☀️
Thank you to bill sponsors, @EmilyAssembly and @LizKrueger, and the countless advocates who made this happen! Now, to the Gov's desk!
We did it, y’all. We passed my bill, the SUNNY Act, to bring plug-in solar to NY.
Balcony solar will reduce New Yorkers’ utility bills AND their emissions. It will dramatically expand who has access to the solar economy and strengthen the power of the renewable movement 💪🏼🌞.
☀️Proud to vote in favor of @EmilyAssembly‘s #SUNNYAct in the Assembly today!
Once signed into law, New Yorkers will be able to utilize plug-in solar devices, lowering utility costs, reducing emissions and making renewable energy accessible to all.
Maryland just signed the Utility RELIEF Act into law. ⚡☀️
Thank you, @GovWesMoore and @fraserfor15, for your support in getting this done! Faster permits. Lower costs. More solar. ☀️
Gov. Wes Moore signed Maryland’s Utility Relief Act into law Tuesday amid debate over rising energy costs and clean energy policy. GOP and environmental groups warn it falls short. https://t.co/7sz1VqlR70
Big news out of Colorado this week! Governor Polis signed HB26-1007 into law, legalizing plug-in solar and cutting home solar installation costs by up to $10,000 through meter collar technology. ☀️ ⚡
Huge credit to @kcbecker and Colorado Solar and Storage Association (COSSA) for driving this win, and to @copirg for helping start the whole push

Our nation’s energy costs are soaring, and American families are paying the price. But it doesn’t have to be this way. By treating homes as energy infrastructure, we can save trillions and create over a million jobs nationwide. In their new Homegrown Energy report, @rewiringamerica outlines six key policies that unlock these benefits and more: https://t.co/iSHJYiqehU
Automated permitting for home solar and batteries just passed the CT Legislature! First in New England ⚡ ☀️
That matters. Connecticut has some of the highest energy costs in the country. Slow and expensive permitting is a major barrier for families seeking to cut their utility bills with solar.
MA and RI are also considering automated permitting bills this session. They should follow CT's lead and deliver faster, cheaper home energy upgrades across the region.
Kudos to all the champions who made this happen, including @GovNedLamont, Chairs Rep Steinberg and Sen @NormCT Needleman, and advocates like Michael Trahan at CONNSSA. Onward to signature!
New York City electricity rates are 50% above the national average... and rising.
A new op-ed from @votesolar and @solaronenyc lays out exactly what @NYCMayor can do about it, including cutting the permitting and inspection red tape that adds thousands of dollars to every home solar install ☀️ ⚡

How can we make energy more affordable and reliable? Distributed energy resources (DERs)! DERs, like rooftop solar, batteries, and smart thermostats that allow consumers to generate, store, and manage their own electricity. Read @pewtrusts new DER policy playbook: https://t.co/OuBb92X03R
A new report from @CSInstituteAZ finds that getting a permit adds about 23 days to the average home improvement project. The slowest jurisdictions take over 134 days just for approval. And homeowners pay wildly different fees for identical projects depending solely on where they live. This is the red tape we want to cut. And the data keeps proving the case ⚡ ☀️

The SUNNYAct passed the NY Senate UNANIMOUSLY! Huge thanks to the bill sponsor, Sen @LizKrueger. New Yorkers struggling with high energy bills can soon plug in solar and save up to $800/year. No installer. No high upfront cost. No red tape, just real bill savings. ☀️⚡️

Up to 34% of VA home solar permits were being abandoned before this bill. Now Governor Spanberger has signed HB 590/SB 382 into law, making it faster, easier & cheaper for Virginians to power their lives. Big thank you to @GovernorVA for getting this across the finish line. ☀️⚡️
