It has come to our attention that a post on the White House’s official X account used footage from the anime series Yu-Gi-Oh!.
This was made without any authorization from the rights holder. Regarding this matter, no one associated with the manga or anime had any involvement, and no permission was granted for the use of this intellectual property.
I see a lot of discussions about piracy, but there’s something I hope overseas fans understand.
Unlike a decade ago, anime licensors today are actively trying to make shows available in as many regions as possible. But subtitles, dubbing, and distribution deals take time and →
and that you’re willing to pay for them.
When real demand becomes visible and a healthy market exists, licensors genuinely want to bring anime to each country and region officially.
It came to my attention that the White House used my voice to encourage violence in Iran. Doing so tacitly implicates Kazuki Takahashi’s most beloved contribution, which continues to inspire people to become who they are, and this was presented in a way far removed from the story he was telling. Takahashi died saving others.
Yu-Gi-Oh! is universal, not political. It is disrespectful to present it in any other way.
To those who leak content for self-gratification:Your actions are raising concerns about material leaks, to the point where delaying overseas simulcasts is being discussed = international anime fans would no longer be able to watch new episodes at the same time as Japan…🥲
