Since you read the law in a way that doesn’t lead to contradictions, those additional texts influence the meaning of other legal text.

Just because the government has a legal definition for a word doesn’t mean that’s the same meaning held commonly, and especially not the same meaning held in specific religious groups. No one owes you agreement on what you think words mean.
