They discussed ACTO’s progress, Peru’s presidency of the Governing Council of the Amazonian Environmental Cooperation Mechanism (MACA) and its coordination of the Subcommission on Environmental Crimes of CESPIT, aimed at strengthening the regional effort to protect the Amazon🌳.

He also emphasised strengthening international cooperation by closing existing legal loopholes to fight this scourge more effectively 🤝.

In a video message, Foreign Minister Carlos Espá reaffirmed the Peruvian Government’s priority to combat transnational organised crime and to address the links between drug trafficking, illegal mining and logging, human trafficking, and other offences.

Ambassador María Eugenia Echeverría🇵🇪 highlighted the key role of protected natural areas in biodiversity conservation and sustainable development in Peru, as well as the significant contribution of the Austro-Peruvian Association to strengthening the bilateral relationship.

As the #CTBT marks 30 years, Peru 🇵🇪 reaffirms its commitment to the Treaty’s universalization and entry into force, and to a world free from nuclear testing.

#PeruatUnitedNationsVienna 🇺🇳 | 🇵🇪🌎 On the 30th anniversary of the #CTBT, Peru’s Permanent Representative, Ambassador María Eugenia Echeverría, represented Latin America and the Caribbean, highlighting the region’s longstanding commitment to ending nuclear testing.

Ambassador Echeverría underscored that in 2022 LAC became the first region to achieve universal signature and ratification of the Treaty, while Peru was the first Latin American country to ratify the CTBT in 1997.

I was honoured to meet with H.E. Ms. Keiko Fujimori, President of the Republic of Peru, on the margins of #UNGA81.

Our discussion was constructive, covering the progress that Peru has made in addressing illicit coca cultivation and drug trafficking, and how @UNODC can further support this work through crop monitoring, research and alternative development initiatives.

We welcomed the endorsement of the President for the development of an integrated Country Programme for Peru, bringing our priorities and partnerships together under one strategic framework and helping mobilize resources for programme execution.

I am grateful for Peru’s longstanding partnership with UNODC and its generous support to our Office in Lima. I look forward to building on this cooperation.

#UNGA81 | La presidenta Keiko Fujimori sostuvo una reunión de trabajo con la directora ejecutiva de la Oficina de las Naciones Unidas contra las Drogas y del Delito @UNODC, Monica Juma, en la sede de las Naciones Unidas en Nueva York.

La mandataria reafirmó que la lucha contra la delincuencia organizada transnacional es una prioridad de su Gobierno y destacó la importancia de fortalecer la cooperación, la asistencia técnica y las capacidades institucionales del Perú.

Esta fue la primera reunión de su agenda bilateral durante la Semana de Alto Nivel, lo que refleja la máxima prioridad asignada por el Gobierno frente a esta amenaza.
