A boy who dreams of becoming a swordsmith, Rokuhira Chihiro, fights in a battle action manga, Kagurabachi, after his father is killed and his enchanted swords are stolen. When serialization began in Weekly Shonen Jump in September 2023, its first chapter ranked No. 1 in worldwide readership, excluding Japan, China and South Korea, on Shueisha's multilingual manga app and web service MANGA Plus by SHUEISHA during its first week, based on the September 2023 English edition. It quickly became a hot topic and surpassed 4 million copies in circulation, including digital editions. A TV anime adaptation is also planned for 2027.

Author Takeru Hokazono seeks to present readers with 'things they have never seen before' through the sword battles depicted in the series. He says, 'I want to take images that have never been seen in manga before and bring them into the medium of manga'.

He enjoys action and suspense films from both Japan and overseas, and says he wants to express in his own work 'something like the feeling of wanting to destroy, through violence, the carefully drawn stillness'. The visual effects of the enchanted swords, which use goldfish as a motif, and the bold panel layouts have become some of the reasons overseas fans have been drawn to the series.
