I doubt Canada will ever see these subs. This sub issue is just posturing alongside all the other recent “performative procurement” announcements to appease Trump in preparation for CUSMA. The delays in decision will continue for as long as Carney can stretch them out. I’m betting that the moment Trump’s fortunes fall and his power wanes, Carney will either cancel these subs and other procurements or try to sell them to someone else.

Six years after the prohibition of many makes and models of modern sporting rifles by the Canadian government, property that has been owned for decades by responsible individuals - and those individuals are still in possession of it and will be for at least another year, at this point.

The government is answering itself with this amnesty extension and recognizing that those who owned this property legally before the prohibitions are trusted to continue to store it. If that's the case, then this program should be scrapped entirely and the focus solely turned on the border and organized crime - the real factors behind violence in our communities.

Scrap the confiscation program and get serious about making our communities safer instead of continuing this attack on some of Canada's best people.
