> Reuters: "SpaceX hiked prices on Pentagon during Iran war"
> SpaceX CEO: "Reuters article is false."
🚨 What actually happened:
A U.S. defense contractor (SpektreWorks) put civilian Starlink terminals on LUCAS suicide drones for guidance and targeting without SpaceX's authorization.
This is a direct violation of Starlink's Terms of Service, which prohibit use on weapon systems.
SpaceX has a separate military product for this: Starshield.
When SpaceX found out the unauthorized use, they flagged the violation and adjusted pricing to reflect the aviation-tier service the drones were actually consuming (~$25K value vs the ~$5K being paid).
The Pentagon agreed.
Reuters falsely framed this as "Pentagon vs SpaceX" pricing dispute.
A contractor violated ToS by putting consumer hardware on suicide drones.
That's the story.
@USAMaritimeX What h think the reason for no new startups or other companies attempting new shipyards there are dozens of new defense startups attempting traditional arms. But none really going after building new large shipyards. Except for that one unmanned one
