eScience Center RSE @PeterKalverla worked with @BenedictImme, @ChrisWeijenborg & Ruud van der Ent, a team from @WUR and @tudelft on moisture tracking software during our Small Scale Initiative. What is moisture tracking & what happened to the software? ⬇️

If doing science is like running a restaurant, we need to talk about the kitchen. Following our recent #ESMValTool post, this #Blog discusses the underlying library called #ESMValCore.

Our collaboration w/ @tudelft, @UniUtrecht & @WUR continues w/ support from @NWONieuws#OpenScience Fund! We will bring scientists working on the topic of moisture tracking for climate models together to gain insight on how to better coordinate activities.

The @eWaterCycle platform is an @eScienceCenter and @tudelft project where a 'FAIR by design' platform for doing hydrological modeling research was build. In the proces of building the platform a lot was learned about how to effectively move towards more reproducible science.
The move towards more reproducible science is not simple "just do it" but as @eWaterCycle colleague @PeterKalverla of @eScienceCenter explains: an expedition. In this blog he explains our expedition and the resulting workflow of "how to FAIRify" https://t.co/dOBpZXIahK
Join hydrologists and research software engineers in a quest to make their #ResearchSoftware FAIR. @PeterKalverla explains how they tried achieving this in this #Blog.

Meet Lilio, a new calendar package to make working with timeseries data in ML much easier! Developed with @Roydeliu@SemVijverberg Bart Schilperoort and Jannes van Ingen
Matching calendars to seasons can be surprisingly tricky (and even more on times of climate change!). Luckily, engineers such as @PeterKalverla make our lives easier.

@NS_online mijn reis verloopt over t algemeen goed, waarvoor dank. Enige ergernis is dat de automatische omroeper in de sprinter het vaak niet doet, en het scherm dan ook nog eens niet aangeeft op welk station we zijn (vaak wel reclame). Zou fijn zijn als hier iets aan gedaan kan

As I was waiting in the #EGU23 submission queue, I asked chatGPT to explain my abstract to a 12-year old kid. Oh, and its "Einstein version" was better than my own😅
Projects like DestinE frame digital twins as game changers. But pay close attention to what they are actually promising and delivering. What added value would you want from a digital twin?
We interviewed @OpenAI's new chat bot chatGPT. In addition to writing and explaining code, it was also able to write these haikus for us.

In the Springtime project, we're applying ML to predict phenological events (e.g. date of bloom🌺) based on indirect observations/proxies. Any tips on data retrieval, spatiotemporal data handling, or ML workflows are very welcome🙂 (illustration made with @matplotlib)
