Ada Lois Sipuel Fisher should be better known as a civil rights figure. She challenged segregation at @UofOklahoma and won in the U.S. Supreme Court in 1948 https://t.co/TtgqYEKYwz. Thurgood Marshall was her attorney. OU president George Lynne Cross helped bolster the case. 1/n
Just published @molecology - an exploration of loci putatively involved in adaptation to heat and water limitations in cowpea, a staple food source in West Africa. Thanks to @FoundationFAR for funding w/ @gatesfoundation!

@vsbuffalo We watched the whole series when Netflix still shipped DVDs. The bit where the main character breaks up with his perfectly charming girlfriend b/ she codes with tabs rather than spaces still makes me laugh out loud!
Uneven font sizes, no mention of my name or anyone else's, and the invitation to click a link to find out about salary changes. ChatGPT says this is likely spam or phishing. Or maybe @UMNews HR is sending out salary adjustment announcements that smell exactly like phishing?
@vsbuffalo@nathanfielder The Air Disasters tv show is in the 23rd season, so you aren’t the only person with this interest. Aviation magazines used to list an account of recent accidents. My host father in Australia was a private pilot and read those accounts religiously.
For transparency, we should insist retailers list the amount of new federal sales tax on each item. Ideally this would appear both on price listings and on receipts as the “Trump tariff“ charge. If Trump’s signature was on stimulus checks, he also deserves credit for new taxes!
Gmail accounts are ending abruptly for anyone leaving a university. Tracking down an alternative email for folks still involved in research can be a challenge. @UMNews could follow other universities in setting up a forwarding service. Minimal investment

Congrats to Ed Buckler (USDA-ARS) who has been chosen as the 2025 recipient of The Barbara McClintock Prize for Plant Genetics and Genome Studies by the Maize Genetics Cooperation!
@vsbuffalo We recently took the new @Amtrak Borealis to Chicago and then service on to Detroit. A big chunk of the Detroit run is at 110 mph. It goes by pretty fast. Only complaint is that the train was almost completely full.
@vsbuffalo At ~500 miles, a 200+ mph train would make pretty quick work of that trip. Even the 150 mph of the Acela trains in the equivalent corridor on the East Coast would make the trip in about the same time as her layover!
Our manuscript with @PeterLMorrell@ChaochihLiu et al about “Phenotypically wild barley shows evidence of introgression from cultivated barley”is here: https://t.co/pE3ut0VBvs
Our manuscript (with @ChaochihLiu,@PeterLMorrell, @justinfay,@SkylarWyant, and other amazing colleagues) about the sodium azide mutagenesis inducing a unique mutation pattern comes out! https://t.co/UQttZPhYrB
