Musing on the purpose of transit:

It would make a great deal of sense to tax cars and gas to subsidize transit. While I may be paying for someone else to take the bus, I benefit from them not taking a whole car of road space to move one person.

@MichaelEMcNeil @DJSnM One problem with this is that the gravitational constant is tiny (6.6743×10^−11 m^3 kg^−1 s^−2), so to do a reasonable amount of work you have to have something very heavy (expensive to launch) and very close (complex and/or risky) for a long time.
