I once went to a lecture at Cardiff Uni on the use of ice cores to measure historic CO2 levels. The figure then was 380ppm. The phrase "the last time they were at 400, there were palm trees at the North Pole" has stayed with me.

It's important these technologies are developed, but they should come into play once annual emissions have fallen to net zero so we can turn back the dial on the amount of CO2 already in the atmosphere.
