A few years ago, I wrote to Football Australia, suggesting that they name the A-League trophy after John Walter Fletcher (in honour of the putative 'father' of soccer football in Australia) - to give it an identity (like rugby's 'Webb Ellis' trophy)
I didn't hear back ... ☹️
John Walter Fletcher (1847-1918) is generally considered to be 'the father' of soccer football in Australia
He organised what is usually deemed to be the first 'official' soccer football match in Australia - Wanderers FC (a new club) vs Kings School rugby team, on 14 August 1880
These 1920 Qld AIF players went on to represent Australia: Jimmy Love, Billy McBride, George Brown and Johnny Peebles
Alf Morgan was appointed manager of the inaugural Australian team, which toured NZ in 1922
John Muir Peebles (1889–1947) - known as 'Johnny'
Johnny was born in Glasgow, and migrated to Brisbane, Australia in 1913. He became a foundation member of the local Thistle FC in 1920.
Here he is with the 1920 Queensland team
@gedboy58
@gedboy58 Johnny Peebles served with the AIF on the Western Front during WW1.
He was selected as captain of the 1920 Qld AIF team to play a friendly against the crew of HMS Renown, which was carrying the Prince of Wales on a royal tour (Renown won 2-0).
@garrymck August 1903
About 2,000 spectators watched Eskgrove FC play HMS Mildura at the Pineapple ground, Kangaroo Point
Mildura had only been beaten three times in three years, and Eskgrove only twice in two seasons
Final score Eskgrove FC 0-1 HMS Mildura

@garrymck Eskgrove FC ('senior' team?) 0-1 HMS Mildura, played at the Pineapple Paddock, Kangaroo Point, August 1903 - "The best match seen on this ground for years"

@garrymck Eskgrove FC ('juniors'?) and Wellingtons FC combined team 1-5 HMS Mildura - played at the Pineapple Paddock, Kangaroo Point, August 1903

@garrymck@garrymck I assume that Eskgrove FC was named after Eskgrove Street, East Brisbane - in turn named for the 1850s house 'Eskgrove' (which still stands, but now in Laidlaw Street)
I also assume that Eskgrove FC played at the Pineapple Sportsfield, Kangaroo Point (now Raymond Park)
To coincide with the centenary of the soccer football First Test between Australia and the English FA XI in Brisbane in June 1925, Fairplay Publishing has released
@70s_mo Paul Nicholls's superbly written account of the English tour

@Rainmaker1973 The panel appears to be of tempered (AKA toughened) glass. It doesn't have a 'weak spot' per se, but has a *weakness*, despite its generally high resistance to breaking - if the impact force is concentrated (as here with the point of the file) the glass can be shattered
