JavaScript creator warns against “rushed web UX over native” as Windows 11 leans harder on WebView2 and Electron.

"As a b2g (FirefoxOS) cofounder, also connected to webOS folks in the day, I'm against bloat due to rushed use of Web UX over native," JavaScript legend Brendan Eich said.

"It can be done right; it takes time."

All popular Windows apps are either using WebView2 (which is based on Chromium) or Electron.

Worse, Microsoft is also adding WebView2 to the Notification Center on Windows 11.

This needs to stop. Bring back native apps! Use web tech only where it's required, and do it the right way.

🎉 Proud to be part of the very first preview of the next big release of Visual Studio 2026. It was fun to work with the Razor team and also challenging (in a good way!) to implement these editor features. You can give it a try here: https://t.co/HSxmX89WsO

@fusionforce12 It is also confirmed that there won't be any "... Origin Lite +even Liter" edition either, which would have still offered a permissionless (but obviously less capable) ad blocking approach (using Manifest V3 only).

[Juhász Péter @Peter_Juhasz]

uBlock Origin Lite is not "permission-less" anymore, in fact it asks for the broadest permissions possible, confirmed: https://t.co/ukrvtvYSj5

Can anyone recommend an alternative?

[Juhász Péter @Peter_Juhasz]

@fusionforce12 Yes, it was confirmed by the author in the comments: https://t.co/ukrvtvYSj5 By now, they have already replaced "permission-less" to "effective" on the store page.

They should have communicated this critical change better and the "why"s behind it.

@KarenPayneMVP We had a third option as well, before the pattern matching era (and both for performance).

@madskristensen Razor is broken again. The language service doesn't even start. #Blazor #VisualStudio

[Juhász Péter @Peter_Juhasz]

I posted a #csharp language idea, to allow any pattern in the catch clause to match an exception, other than only type and declaration patterns. Here you can read the proposal draft, share your comments and upvote if you like it:

Is it only me, or the beginning of "Armando Manzanero & Bebu Silvetti: Esperaré - el Ciego" (1997) sounds like a jazz cover of "Joe Hisaishi - One Summer's Day" (2001)? Was it an original inspiration for the famous theme song? #spiritedaway https://t.co/1HDwl2l4ml

How to remove ads from the #Windows Weather app? As a paying customer, by the way. Well, this is an answer too, thanks #Bing. 😅
