Let's talk about the Zenith Bank story going around.
There's a lot of fear, but not enough facts. Here's exactly what happened, and more importantly, what it means for YOU as a customer.
Zenith Bank confirmed some customer contact details - emails and phone numbers - were accessed without authorization. That's the full scope. But here's the part everyone's skipping past...
NO money was touched. NO account numbers. NO passwords. NO PINs. Not one naira moved. This wasn't a breach of your funds - it was exposure of contact info, and that distinction matters a lot. Let me explain why.
This wasn't even a "Zenith-only" problem. The bank says it's linked to a bigger, global cyber-attack hitting multiple organizations right now. Nigeria's CAC, Sterling Bank, and Remita have all faced similar incidents this year. This is an industry-wide storm.
Zenith's Reaction:
The moment they discovered it, they activated incident response protocols, brought in cybersecurity measures, and kept every digital channel running. Your app, your ATM, your transfers, all working normally throughout.
Here's the only real risk now:
Scammers using this news to impersonate Zenith. If anyone calls or texts you, asking for your PIN, password, or OTP "to verify your account" - that is not the bank, that is a criminal. Zenith will NEVER ask for that.
Bottom line:
Your money is safe. Your login details are safe. The bank responded fast and has been transparent. Stay alert, ignore suspicious messages, and don't let panic do what the hackers couldn't.
Retweet this thread because someone on your timeline is panicking right now over something that didn't even touch their money. Let's calm the fear with facts. 🙏
Rufai Oseni Breaks Down on Live TV Over Nigeria’s Economic CrisisOn Arise TV this morning, journalist Rufai Oseni was moved to tears while criticising Nigeria’s politicians for allegedly looting the country’s resources, forcing the nation to now seek loans from other countries. He contrasted the current situation with the 1970s, when Nigeria reportedly lent money to the World Bank.
NIGERIAN POLITICIANS ARE DEMONS 😓
Data analyst. Data scientist. In 2026, most people still use these interchangeably.
They are not the same role. The gap is growing, not shrinking.
Here is the honest distinction, not the course version.
DATA ANALYST (what the role actually is in most organisations):
⟶ You work with existing data to answer business questions.
⟶ Your primary tools are SQL, a BI tool, and Excel or Python for analysis.
⟶ Your output is insight. a finding, a recommendation, a report.
⟶ Your stakeholders are business teams: marketing, finance, operations.
⟶ The questions are retrospective and diagnostic: what happened, why, what should we do.
DATA SCIENTIST (what the role actually is in most organisations):
⟶ You build systems that produce predictions or automations from data.
⟶ Your primary tools are Python, machine learning frameworks, and cloud platforms.
⟶ Your output is a model, a pipeline, or a product feature.
⟶ Your stakeholders often include engineering and product, not just business teams.
⟶ The questions are forward-looking and generative: what will happen, what should the system do.
WHERE PEOPLE GET CONFUSED:
⟶ Most “data scientist” job ads in 2026 want a strong data analyst.
⟶ Most “data analyst” job ads expect some Python and statistical thinking.
The actual line between them is not the title.
It is whether you are producing insight for humans to act on. or building systems that act automatically.
WHY THIS MATTERS FOR YOUR CAREER:
⟶ If you are targeting data scientist roles without a modelling and engineering foundation, you are applying for the wrong jobs.
⟶ If you are a strong analyst avoiding data scientist titles because you think you are not technical enough, you are probably underselling yourself.
Know which version of the role you are actually targeting.
Then look for the organisations whose job descriptions match that reality.
