Join @ShiftParadigm and me TOMORROW 7:00 PM EDT for KEEPING HOPE ALIVE IN YOUR HEART - part two of a very special two-part #WhatIsSchool series for educators. Thanks for retweeting. @mrkempnz
A6) Just like adults, transition from the pandemic is not easy. Students are at a different point in their lives but they’re still overwhelmed. Patience is important, they’re human too and we have to remember and respect that. #masterychat#EDLR795
Q6 Next year, most schools will be “back on schedule” but our students may not be. How can we Meet Students Where They Are from day 1 next fall? #MasteryChat
A5)Support support support! Teaching is difficult, teaching in a pandemic is HARD! None of us signed up for that but we’re here! Students education is so important and we’re here to help them achieve that, but support from peers, parents and admin is key! #masterychat#EDLR795
A4) Following pacing and curriculum does not belong. Students needs come first, they are their to learn, to prepare for life after graduation. You have to find a happy medium in regards to the pace you move, but it should never sacrifice students needs. #masterychat#EDLR795
A3) VIRTUAL LEARNING/DISTANCE LEARNING! It is so difficult to truly know where a student is when you can only talk to them through a computer screen or with a mask! Seeing someone’s expressions makes communication much easier! #masterychat#EDLR795@DrVirtuality
To me, this means realizing where your student(s) are in their personal lives, school work, athletics or your classroom and being there to support them and help them through it as a mentor and leader. #masterychat#EDLR795@DrVirtuality
I will absolutely try sharing my experiences with them to better understand them and to encourage them to better understand themselves!Showing empathy and understanding and leading by example! #WhatIsSchool#EDLR795@DrVirtuality
A5) consistent conversation, letting them know that they aren’t here to pass or fail...they’re here to learn something new, not just grading based on outcome but on effort. I think this will encourage students to try harder and stay involved. #WhatIsSchool#EDLR795@DrVirtuality
A4) example from my A3, we had discussions about their hobbies, what they enjoyed, why they weren’t enjoying this class and what their learning style was. We were able to adjust projects and work better together once we understood more about each other. #whatisschool#EDLR795
Eventually we had a break through with the student and found a woodworking project they were excited about. It completely changed their attitude and the class environment! #WhatIsSchool#EDLR795
I had a student that never wanted to participate in projects. They would sit in the hallway or work on packets. Other students were constantly asking why, or saying it wasn’t fair. It was a constant disruption. #WhatIsSchool#EDLR795
When a student loses hope they become less engaged. If they’re not engaging in the lesson they’re missing out on the education that goes with it! Their uninterested behavior can also affect other students and cause disruptions! #WhatIsSchool#EDLR795@DrVirtuality
A2 It is very important and hard to do remotely but you have to be cognizant of students' body language and expressions. Many are very anxious and have lost some hope as a result of the pandemic. Reach out to each student Body Language https://t.co/WoDJ2LOZrd #whatisschool
A2) They become complacent, stressed, easily overwhelmed. Happiness fades and is replaced with anger and irritation! Such hard things to overcome! #WhatIsSchool#EDLR795@DrVirtuality
