Education isnโt broken because of teachers. Itโs broken because we ask teachers to be counselors, social workers, parents, and miracle workersโwhile still demanding perfect test scores. Fix the system, not the people holding it together.
While the principal is the thermostat, the culture of a school is created by everyone in the school. Walk in a school and see how the front office staff talks and interacts or the staff /teachers in the hallway. Everyone is ultimately responsible for a positive school culture.
Basketball coaches, if you are coaching 4yr-7yr old kids (boys and girls together) in a Saturday League, are you teaching them zone or man defense? Thoughts behind which you choose? Practice time very limited and skill levels vary as you would expect with the age gap.
Physical Ed., Arts, & other classes don't need literacy standards to be valued. These classes have their own standards and children need to run, create, interact, & be active in these classes, which develop divergent learning. They will also be more effective in other classes.
The best teacher I knew had a game where any adult entered her room(staff, admin, parent) had to answer a question. The students loved this because she would ask tough questions based on the lesson & they often knew the answer when the adults didnโt. Fun outside the box teaching!
Admin, when you drop in the class for a visit, maybe check to see if the teacher needs anything, like running to restroom, or bring them a water/ coffee. The little things are the big things in the daily grind!
Elkton School students are analyzing Mesopotamian cave drawings in Elktonโs Innovation Lab. Students use flashlights like spelunkers to examine the drawings placed underneath tables to give their exploring an authentic feel.
Leaders, teachers, and staff, remember you are not in competition, but you're on the same team! Encourage, inspire, and support each other! Build each other up and cheer each other to greatness. It's "the power of 'WE".
Effective Leaders know how they interact in the cafeteria, bus line, hallway, etc, is more important than how they interact in a meeting or their office. Culture is created by all interactions.

High school age AAU teams should not be playing in June. Let them go with their high school teams. I coached on the travel ball side for alil less than 20 years, and I never did anything in June. High school coaches, and travel ball coaches should be working together.
@matt15miller@DavyMcClaran Had no clue yโall graduated together!! I played for 1 and have formed a good relationship coaching against one! Much respect!
@JoshuaKirchner Hard candies in the pocket to pop one in rather than yell at time. A watch or phone to keep time and use as a guide for drills/stations. And a word of the day that is used to focus on a weakness from the previous practice or game.
