@MMatvikov Consumption taxes such as GST are regressive. Raising those taxes disproportionately disadvantages those on lower incomes.
If you couple that with income tax cuts on higher brackets and then you’ll have something similar to the Big Beautiful Bill.

That’s provided the US workforce would be willing to work at cheap labour rates as the country it currently imports those goods from.

As such it is possible to see prices for some goods rise significantly more than the tariff as a result.

Its also a possibility that manufacturers/exporter can reduce price when COGS decreases thru more efficient production processes.
However in real life these things are rare.
It might be sustainable for a short period of time…..

Even Japanese and Korean cars are extremely expensive there. More than half the road traffic is scooters. Not uncommon to see a family of 4 on a scooter.
