Don’t Let City Hall Legalize Secrecy!

That’s why the latest revelations out of City Hall are so troubling—and why the City Attorney’s response is even worse.

So wait, Councilor Angelita Morillo voted to cut the Mayor's public safety budget, but her advice for lack of police is for people to be "semi competent" with guns??? It's bonkers to recommend vigilanteism over 9-1-1.

@thadfisco Most of the people signed up to testify about the city budget were there to support public safety funding. City council not only cut the testimony short & kept 100+ people from speaking, but then voted 7-5 to defund the police. Doesn’t seem very democratic.

@councilorzimm Too many people and small businesses continue to be victimized. Over 200 people signed up to testify on the city council budget, many advocating for public safety funding. 7 people on city council don’t seem to care.

The MultCo deflection center, created for people with drug addiction, costs $62,567 per accessed referral. And of 221 referrals only 4 people contacted detox! Celebrity rehab prices for simple referrals often unrelated to rehab! Seattle LEAD program helps more at $899/month. So we have a budget deficit, jobs cuts, community centers closing, but Councilors Avalos and Dunphy want to splurge $1.2 mill on new offices rather than sharing offices with Councilor Smith. Other cities are figuring out ways to build more low cost housing. Some Portland city councilors are more interested in adding to bureaucratic hurdles and ramming it through without charter-required public comment. Thanks @EZ_PDX and @danryanpdx for wanting public input!
