On this day in 1891. Zora Neale Hurston, folklorist and fiction writer was born in Alabama. Part of the Harlem Renaissance, she's best known for her novel Their Eyes Were Watching God. Hired by the Pittsburgh Courier in 1952, she covered the Ruby McCollum murder trial in Florida.
