Today was THE day! Manuscript accepted!!!! My first one ever! From my dissertation, meaning I’m first author! I’ve waited for this day for three years! First submitted this manuscript in 2018. This is the fourth journal to review. I’m so happy! #AcademicChatter #phdchat #phdlife

Despite a heightened emotional state, I did my job and taught at my PWI. I noticed a student seemed different. ���The student was burnt out because they already have done a research project this semester & felt my class was moving too slow” even though we’re learning new concepts.

Yesterday as I sat in my office watching the verdict of Derek Chauvin being delivered, I heard a colleague in their office happily whistling. While I’m holding back tears, trying to collect myself to do my job, my colleague is joyful, oblivious to the collective pain many faced.

I know grad school looks attractive with this flaky job market, but it is no cake walk. It is challenging and structured to be hard. Grad programs by design push you to stretch your mind and philosophical worldviews. Don’t make the decision lightly. #phdlife #gradlife #phdchat

After my 1st advisory dumped me, he started a study abroad program. Naively I inquired about applying. He told me I didn’t have the “right” energy for the program & worried if I didn’t get picked, I’d blame it on race. So he changed eligibility to undergrads only #BlackintheIvory
