@AidanMP6@ZJAyres Or they actually are getting of on power play. It does happen. Besides, "just joking" is not any kind of excuse when it is causing mental harm, distress, and panic.
I love this advice!! I actually made an amazing conference connection in a breakout room after my talk. But reaching out and being precise about your expectations is a way to go in online conf mode! #PhDadvice#phdlife
1. Ask people to do a "coffee break" during an online conference. Hi, I [saw your talk/am interested in x aspect of your work/would like to ask you about x questions], would you have 30 min to chat during [online conference]?

@unnicheable@PhDVoice I'm so sorry! And you are right that there is the paradox of "don't ask for money" but also they treasure bringing in grants and outside money the most. Do you have peers that you can ask? They tend to know more than profs. That's how I learnt about grant options at my uni...
@Hockey19John It's not necessarily about it being hard, but rather was meant as a comment that doing research is basically acknowledging that no definitions are stable and no category is fixed (especially in the humanities!). Thank you for the link, though!
Doing PhD is just rephrasing "this is a very elusive term," "this is an umbrella term without any fixed meaning" and "the definition varies among scholars" over and over until you defend, isn't it.

@AcaGrumbles Fingers crossed! I am about to start sending preemptive "hey would you be interested in having me" emails soon so it's very much the mood right now too π¬
If I have been procrastinating something that is due tomorrow by doing something that is due the day after tomorrow (so, both have very urgent deadlines) is it actually a productive type of procrastination? π€

Q: How do I know if I've read enough?
A: Enough for what?
Enough to know everything? Never.
Enough to start writing? Start writing now. Then you will see the gaps and what else you need to read.

@lesliedayly I mean, after doing PhD brainwork you gotta do something to unwind and embroidery and Netflix sound like they would get that job done! π
@PhD_Genie I tend to adjust to the person I live with, so I sometimes move to 1am bedtime but recently I switched again into 11-12pm to 8am. I like working either in the morning or in the evening.
@AcademicChatter I mean, intersectional of course!
But I tend to "operationalize" a lot too, and every time I get to write "ontological status" it gives me happy feels. π
@ina_kostakis @OpenAcademics Ooh, exciting - is it a larger grant program or for a specific uni? (not at all asking because I am about to start looking for fellowship programs...) I find that looking for the online templates is a good start to get it going - take 1-2 good sounding phrases and go from there!
