Press Release
The Spokeswoman of the Ministry of National Defence of the Kingdom of Cambodia, wishes to inform the public as well as members of national and international media as follows:
On Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at 9:30 AM, the Cambodian Liaison Group (CLG) of the Kingdom of Cambodia, led by Lieutenant General Phat Vibolsopheak, Deputy Director-General of the General Department of Policy and Foreign Affairs and Director of the International Relations Department, facilitated a field mission for the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT), led by the Head of Mission (HOM AOT) under the Philippine Chairmanship. The objective was to observe, verify, and report on the border situation in the Boeung Trakuan area, located in Kok Romiet Commune, Thma Puok District, Banteay Meanchey Province. This area was subjected to incursions, the installation of barbed wire, and the illegal deployment of shipping containers by the Thai military—actions that continue to prevent numerous Cambodian families from returning to their homes.
The ASEAN Observer Team’s inspection of the aforementioned sovereign Cambodian territory currently under illegal Thai occupation underscores the absolute necessity for the Cambodia-Thailand Joint Boundary Commission (JBC) to commence land demarcation work as soon as possible. This aligns with the existing framework stipulated in Point 3 of the Joint Statement of the 3rd Special Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) dated December 27, 2025, which aims to ensure that our citizens can safely, peacefully, and with dignity return to their homes without any obstruction.
The Royal Government and the Ministry of National Defence of Cambodia reaffirm our firm, sincere, and unwavering commitment to fully and faithfully respect and implement the Joint Statement of the Third Special Meeting of the Cambodia–Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) on December 27, 2025, the Joint Declaration on the Peace Agreement between Cambodia and Thailand on October 26, 2025, and all other relevant agreements. This commitment is made with the aim of ensuring rapid recovery and restoring normalcy, and long-lasting peace and stability.
The public, as well as national and international journalists, are hereby informed of the facts regarding this matter.

Cambodia Urges Full Respect for UN Charter, Denounces Illegal Occupation of Its Territory
AKP Phnom Penh, May 27, 2026 --
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation H.E. Prak Sokhonn has reaffirmed Cambodia’s strong commitment to the United Nations Charter while calling for full respect for Cambodia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity amid the continued illegal occupation of Cambodian territory by Thai forces.
Speaking at the High-Level Open Debate of the United Nations Security Council on May 26, H.E. Prak Sokhonn stressed that the principles enshrined in the UN Charter – including sovereign equality, territorial integrity, peaceful settlement of disputes, and non-use of force — must remain the foundation of the international order.
“The UN Charter must remain the cornerstone of international order and the indispensable framework for peaceful coexistence, cooperation, and conflict prevention,” he said.
The Deputy Prime Minister warned that these principles are increasingly under strain due to armed conflicts, geopolitical tensions, and declining trust among nations.
Drawing from Cambodia’s own historical experience, H.E. Prak Sokhonn emphasised that disputes must be resolved exclusively through dialogue, diplomacy, mutual respect, and adherence to international law.
He recalled the important role played by the United Nations Transitional Authority in Cambodia (UNTAC) in supporting Cambodia’s peace process, national reconciliation, and recovery in the early 1990s.
Regarding the Cambodia-Thailand border situation, the Deputy Prime Minister expressed Cambodia’s appreciation to the international community for supporting the ceasefire and peaceful settlement efforts in accordance with international law and the principles of the UN Charter.
He stressed that borders and sovereignty “must never be altered by force or through fait accompli.”
While the ceasefire continues to hold, H.E. Prak Sokhonn expressed concern over the situation on the ground in areas “well inside Cambodian territory” that remain under illegal occupation.
He called for the full, effective, and urgent implementation of all agreements reached between Cambodia and Thailand, particularly the Joint Statement of Dec. 27, 2025.
The Deputy Prime Minister underlined that respect for international law, existing treaties and agreements, dialogue, good faith, and mutual respect are essential to restoring trust, securing lasting peace, and enabling displaced populations to return home safely and with dignity.
He also called on the international community to continue supporting peaceful efforts aimed at preserving peace, stability, and prosperity in the region.
Cambodia has so far responsibly and faithfully adhered to and implemented the Joint Statement of the 3rd Special Meeting of the General Border Committee (GBC) held on Dec. 27, 2025. However, the Thai side has continued to violate Cambodia’s sovereignty through repeated actions, including laying barbed wire, placing container units, constructing infrastructure, and destroying houses in the illegally-occupied areas.

The Krama is a traditional woven textile deeply rooted in Cambodia’s daily life and cultural traditions.
In 2024, Krama was inscribed on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, recognising its cultural significance and the communities who keep the tradition alive.
Woven from cotton or silk using traditional handlooms, krama features distinctive grid patterns dyed with natural colors from plants and insects. It is used in many ways: as a scarf, belt, blanket, bandana, decorative cloth, and even a hammock for children.
A simple cloth, yet a powerful symbol of Cambodia’s cultural identity and community spirit.

Despite ongoing mediation efforts by the United States and China to end the armed conflict between Cambodia and Thailand, the Thai military has continued its attacks, openly disregarding international calls for restraint.
At around 11:00 p.m. on December 19, 2025, two Thai Air Force F-16 fighter jets dropped three bombs on O Chik Bridge, completely destroying the structure and rendering it impassable.
The O Chik Bridge, located on National Road 68, connects Siem Reap and Oddar Meanchey provinces. For more than a decade, it had served as a critical civilian lifeline, supporting daily transportation, local commerce, agricultural logistics, and access to schools for students in surrounding communities.
The destruction of the bridge has severely disrupted livelihoods and mobility for residents in both provinces, compounding the humanitarian impact of the conflict.

The Ministry of National Defence and the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces reiterate that “Cambodia's rights to self-defence is solely targeted at the Thai military targets and has never targeted at civilian areas". We firmly emphasize that Cambodia has been consistently and strictly upholding all obligations under the international law, especially international humanitarian law.
Cambodia demands that Thai medias both official and unofficial immediately cease deliberately spreading false information aimed at misleading the public, especially the Thai people, as well as the national and international media, shifting the blame on Cambodia, in order to expand their scope of aggression.

@TrumpTruthOnX At 2 a.m. on December 13, 2025, Thailand attacked Cambodia’s Koh Kong Province, forcing innocent civilians to flee their homes in the middle of the night. This is a cruel and inhumane act. Thailand has never wanted peace—ceasefires mean nothing when only Cambodia respects them.

Until now, Thailand has continued attacking Cambodia and has kept refusing the ceasefire agreement. Is this really the behavior of people who want peace? We can clearly see who is defending and who is invading.

Chok Chey village has been left in ruins after days of sustained Thai military shelling along the Cambodian border. Family homes and the local market were among the structures destroyed. Does this look like military targets to you?
