I think what’s notable here is the timeline.
Thursday China announces its expansion of Rare earth restrictions.

24 hours later Trump blasts China, sending an incendiary tweet plunging US markets as much as 6% (damage likely anticipated)

24 hours later, while hedging his tweets prob due to ensuing crypto damage (likely unanticipated), Pentagon announces a $1B critical metals program (I’ll add the word “emergency” to this)

All of this is highly reactive policy, and to me suggests much bigger to come - and a very real race to get deals done now / expect expanding the CM program to something like $10B as next tranche

As I think about how far a sector like Quantum has come, with its barely existent narrative / science project status, I’m curious to see how far these trades can go when Trump is silently gas pedaling his admin to ‘secure supply’ at urgency 5

The fact that Trump reacted so swiftly and so meaningfully to chinas Rare earths announcement this weekend .. means they’ve finally found the right pressure point. I expect they will press to exploit this.

Perhaps while the Trump admin explores deals globally to secure ties/stakes, China may try and do the same. The race for rare earths? We’ll see soon what the real game is here, but maybe both sides have stopped moving just pawns
