"Looking after your health is not a weakness. It's one of the strongest thing that you can do."
NPA Board Member, Ashley Cohen, shares the importance of looking after your mental health, encouraging more conversations about men's physical and mental health— and highlighting the important role community pharmacy can play.
Research shows that while 92% of men in the UK regularly visit a pharmacy, many leave without discussing their health. Community pharmacies provide an accessible, trusted and confidential space where early conversations can make a real difference.
To help you support patients with confidence, access our range of practical resources, including:
• Lifestyle Advice Crib Sheet
• Depression Crib Sheet
Our latest blog also shares five practical ways you can create more welcoming environments, encourage earlier conversations and improve access to support for men.
Together, we can help make community pharmacy a place where every man feels comfortable seeking advice, asking questions and accessing the care they need.

📺 “There is no point putting more money into a system that is broken.”
NPA board member @ashleydcohen tells @BBCBreakfast that today’s announcement is a ‘good start’ but we want to meet with ministers urgently to discuss the need to reform our contract
Same issues being replayed month after month in media. Talk is cheap, we need action from the government now. We are now in our 2nd month in 26/27 and no agreed contractural framework. @NPA1921
Pharmacies need urgent protection.
No healthcare professional should face abuse at work — yet pharmacy teams are still being left exposed.
As highlighted by @ashleydcohen , this cannot continue.
Share this message and call for pharmacies to receive the same level of protection as other NHS staff. @ComPharmEngland

'Behind every prescription is a professional that faces intimidation, fear, anger and violence,' says Pharmacy Owner Ashley Cohen.
Pharmacy staff are facing “escalating abuse” from patients while at work, with reports of racism and violence, according to a new survey.
@pharmthorrun Releasing stock to pharmacies is fine. But 20,000 doses distributed to only 2,000 pharmacies allows us to treat 5 patients only (if evenly distributed). I have over 180 patients on a waiting list in last 24 hrs!
Thousands of pharmacists have written direct to @wesstreeting today to ensure he is good to his word to fix pharmacy funding. I was on @BBCBreakfast this morning talking about the financial impact on our sector @NPA1921

🗣️ “What really makes me angry is that you would not go to your doctor and expect them to part fund your X-Ray or blood test but what is happening to me and my pharmacy colleagues is we are having to plug the gap between what the government will pay for medication and what we are actually having to buy it at for patients.”
Watch NPA board member Ashley Cohen speak to BBC Breakfast about the impact of aspirin shortages on pharmacies and patients, reporting the findings you provided to us this week.
We’re calling for widespread substitution flexibilities for pharmacies when medicine is out of stock as well as calling for the government to bring an end to the scandal of asking pharmacies to dispense NHS medication at a loss.

“What makes me angry is that you would not go to your GP & expect them to fund your X-Ray or blood test but what is happening to my pharmacy colleagues is we are having to plug the gap between what government will pay for drugs & what we are actually having to buy it at for pts.”
