I continue to run on a regular basis not to improve my times, but simply because I enjoy running. When possible I pick scenic courses that provide me with enjoyable sights and sounds. Races are just a by-product of the pleasure running brings me.
Running shoes are expensive, but they are almost the only item of equipment in our sport that is essential for our success and comfort. (Okay: a comfortable sports bra if you are female.) Rotate shoes regularly to minimize your chances of injury and to both look and feel good.
Everyone's first running step is hardest, but the next few steps over the next few days and weeks can be tough too. Motivation is something you can't buy on the Internet. Encourage people to run; most important, encourage them to start.
How do you encourage new runners? How do you convince them to take that first step out the door? It is not easy. But hundreds of thousands of people have taken that first step, otherwise we would not see as many as 40,000 runners in marathon fields these days.
Utilize professionals: If injured and several days’ rest doesn't result in a cure, seek medical intervention. The runner's best friend is often a podiatrist, but other sportsmedicine experts also offer healing hands. Don't delay when injured. Time is wasting.
