Who is the Word?

1. In Genesis 15:1, “the Word of the LORD” came to Abraham in a vision and spoke to him.

2. In 1 Samuel 3:1–21, “the LORD revealed Himself to Samuel… by the word of the LORD.”

3. In 2 Samuel 7:4–17, the Word of the LORD came to Nathan concerning David.

4. In 1 Kings 16:1–7, the Word of the LORD came against Baasha.

5. In Hosea 1:1, “the word of the LORD” came to Hosea.

Throughout the Old Testament, we see a pattern: the Word of the LORD came to prophets, spoke to them, revealed things to them, warned nations, gave promises, and declared judgment.

But in the New Testament, something extraordinary happened.

John 1:14 says:

“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father…”

The very Word that had been speaking through the prophets entered human history in flesh. The divine Word was no longer only coming to prophets , He was now walking among humanity in person as Jesus Christ.

This explains why Jesus spoke with such unique authority.
The prophets would say:

“Thus says the LORD.”

But Jesus said:

“But I say unto you…”

The prophets received the Word.
Jesus is the Word.

That is why He spoke directly, forgave sins, calmed storms, raised the dead, and revealed the Father perfectly. He was not merely another messenger carrying God’s message, He was God’s eternal Word manifested in flesh.

John 1:1 declares:

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

And verse 14 reveals the mystery:

“The Word became flesh.”
