Those chippy comments from Bayern Munich big-hitters Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and Uli Hoeness about Nick Woltemade going to Newcastle look even stranger now, more like sour grapes now. Woltemade looks increasingly good value. 4 goals in 7 games, 3 on the spin, as well as pressing and productive link-up play. Bayern are a great club (I followed them when I lived there briefly as a kid), they are a wealthy club and, when they call, maybe they expect German players to go there. At the U21 Euros, most of the German media expected the young striker to go to Bayern.

But Newcastle paid the €85m Stuttgart wanted for Woltemade, he’s young (23), has re-sale value and everyone knew Newcastle would have money and need with Isak about to go. Woltemade’s obviously loving playing for Eddie Howe, in this team and before such incredible fans at St James’ Park. He’s an instant icon there. Bayern comments felt unnecessary from such a famous club, even if aimed at local consumption. Even if more about the general wealth of the PL. And it’s not as if Bayern don’t have great strikers - like the brilliant Harry Kane. #NUFC #NEWNFO
