America was never a theocracy. It was founded by men who said “In God We Trust” while writing the First Amendment to protect your right to believe — or not. Christians voting their conscience isn’t “theocracy.” It’s called democracy.

James Talarico says theocracy is the most dangerous form of government because “a tyrant who thinks he’s on a mission from God” is the worst kind.

History disagrees. The deadliest regimes of the 20th century weren’t theocracies—they were explicitly atheistic ones that treated man as the highest authority: Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, and their imitators. Over 100 million dead. No “God told me to” required. Just pure secular ideology and the state as god.

America is not a theocracy. It’s a constitutional republic where religious citizens are allowed to vote their conscience, just like secular ones. That’s not “using religion to control people.” That’s democracy. Talarico simply dislikes when the wrong voters win.

The real move here is redefining Christianity itself—stripping it of its actual doctrines on life, marriage, sex, and truth—so it becomes a convenient wrapper for progressive politics. Then anyone who still believes the old book is smeared as a theocrat.

You don’t have to want clerical rule to recognize that a nation that forgets God doesn’t automatically become more free. It usually becomes something much worse.

The only actual theocracy coming is the one Scripture describes when Christ returns. Until then, pretending that Christian influence is the unique threat while ignoring the body count of godless tyranny is either historical illiteracy or deliberate misdirection.
