You're social media... I'm talking about the ding dongs on my bowling team. Peer pressure is horrible. So I'd literally need to rerack my whole friends group to avoid it.
@MattBraynard@Clif1956@curtish5 Pie in Spanish means Foot
Pie in English is a Dessert
Decimate in Latin means "to take 1/10th"
Decimate in English means "to almost entirely destory"
Hope this helps π
The trailer is definitely not in the spirit of what Orwell wrote. If you haven't read the book or the likes of Atlas Shrugged, I highly recommend it. The spin from the leftist cast and production company deflects from the fundamental warning in the book, consolidation of government and removal of capitalism/free markets. When people like Bernie, AOC, Mamdani, etc. say that they want more taxes and more power, they're following the communist part of the book. If you want to discuss further, please read the book and we can discuss specific pages in reference to this movie. But again, the trailer does NOT play to the core of the book which is anti-communist full stop.
@BoCamaro@washghost1 I used something like this at the plastics factory 15 years ago when in college. This isn't taking the jobs away. But warehouse pickers may become moot if robot pickers get more popular like at Amazon.
In 2026, the "rush" isn't just about work; itβs a battle for your cognitive sovereignty. By mid-morning, the world has had plenty of time to manufacture "emergencies" for you to solve. If you don't have a philosophy for what you let in, you will spend your best hours solving everyone's problems but your own.
βThe Meta-Skill: Selective Indifference.
βDon't Mistake the Urgent for the Important: Most of what people call an "emergency" is just their own lack of planning. You aren't being "helpful" by abandoning your mission to put out someone elseβs small fireβyouβre being undisciplined. Stay on the major tasks. The minor ones will still be there at 4 PM.
βThe Law of Focus: You cannot sail in two directions at once. At this peak hour, narrow your vision. Close the extra tabs, silence the non-essential pings, and finish the logic you started at 8 AM. Efficiency is doing things right; effectiveness is doing the right things.
βThe Price of Your Attention: Your attention is the most valuable currency you own. Don't spend it on trivialities. If a task doesn't move the needle on your long-term value, itβs not a "rush"βitβs a robbery. Reclaim your time.
βIt is better to do one thing of great value than a dozen things of no consequence. Be the architect of your focus, not the victim of the rush.
βWhat is the one "Urgent Distraction" you are saying 'No' to right now to protect your 'Major' goal? Guard the gate below. π‘οΈ
