In excellent company with @Dr_Dimitra_Fimi @asthiggins @PhilippaSemper talking historical linguistics and the impact of the Sundering of the Elves on their language, gaming and fantasy world building, and created sign languages for Dune, the Mandalorian and Wheel of Time!
Very excited for tonight's First Annual Tolkien Lecture @unibirmingham with @Dr_Dimitra_Fimi 7pm in the Brammall. All welcome!
And it's just the start of our Fantasy Weekend: LotR marathon on Saturday, activities on Sunday!
The first annual Tolkien lecture is happening next Friday, 27th May, 7pm at @thebramall, delivered by internationally renowned scholar @Dr_Dimitra_Fimi. Exploring interviews and reminisces from people who knew him, if you're a J.R.R Tolkien fan then this is definitely for you!
@rhetorician@BrennanNoelle@eoinmauricedaly Partly a communication problem, I think: when they hear 'a lot of reading' they think 'a few more books per term than at school then', whereas we think 'a text per week per module and as much secondary reading as you can manage'.
