PIAA’s complete response to Old Forge School District Superintendent’s letter over Private vs Public.
PIAA closes by saying “The primary obstacle to substantial reform is the language of the existing legislation. Should you desire to effectuate substantial change, you may want to consider contacting your legislator and seeking an amendment of Section 511(b.1). Absent such change, we will continue to regularly assess the situation and seek means to best ensure competitive equality within the scope of the law.”

At the very least, Old Forge deserves credit for not letting up on the PIAA on this issue that has many public school people fired up. Many schools complain after the football & basketball tournaments end, but then the issue subsides. OF is continuing the fight.

How did Derek Brooks transform a program that was rarely mentioned when discussing top basketball programs into a team with a real shot at building a dynasty? Upper Dublin is now aiming for a third consecutive SOL championship, with the title game set for Tuesday at 7:30 PM at Bensalem High School. Brooks, who has established himself as one of the best coaches in the Philadelphia area, will be chasing history on Tuesday night. After upsetting the strong favorite Plymouth Whitemarsh Colonials—who have two division signees—in the semifinals, they now face Cheltenham in the championship. Securing one title is tough; winning two is even harder. But three championships? That’s uncharted territory for most programs across the country. Brooks not only has a chance at making history, but so does 2026 PG Kobe Bazemore, who has been the starting point guard for three seasons. While victory is within reach, Cheltenham isn’t going down without a fight. Led by seniors Chris “Wolf” Harmon and Mark Hill, who had plans to win the SOL before the season started, this team remains focused on that goal.
