@SalamanderVA you need to be held accountable for your treatment for BIPOC interns!
✅ Public Statement: Seeking Accountability After My 19 y/o Daughter Was Harassed and Terminated from Her Internship at Salamander Resort & Home2 Suites!!!! #SalamanderExperience
The reality:
•A scared intern screamed for help.
•Witnesses were silenced.
•Guests were believed without question.
•Her job and housing were taken.
•She was left to carry the trauma, unheard.
When he asked to see camera footage, the front desk said:
•There was no manager on duty
•They could not access the security system
•He’d have to come back when leadership returned
The officer said no charges could be filed since there was no physical contact, but gave them an incident number and said he’d follow up with the hotel the following Monday.
On July 3, her mother and mother’s godbrother drove to Virginia to support her. That night, all 3 arrived at Home2 Suites with a Leesburg police officer just before midnight to file a report.
So Salamander:
•Ignored key witnesses
•Took statements from those on payroll only
•Based their actions entirely on the guests’ version
•Gave her no opportunity to fairly defend herself
The white couple’s complaint — not the intern’s — was what triggered Salamander’s involvement.
She had not yet informed the hotel. She was scared, unsure how far the incident had escalated. While she considered reporting it, her mother & aunt advised her to let it go.
Her mother wasn’t the only witness.
During the incident, the intern’s aunt was also added to the FaceTime call by her mother to help calm things down. She, too, witnessed part of the event in real time.
Salamander refused to speak to either adult.
🔹 When the intern asked why her mother couldn’t speak, Salamander said it’s because she was not an employee.
🔹 Yet, HR did take statements from two other Salamander interns — only because they were considered employees.
🔹 They refused to take her mother’s statement, even though she was on FaceTime the entire time and witnessed the altercation live.
🔹 They told her, “You’re 19, so only you can speak on your behalf.”
Salamander HR later told her she was being terminated for “misconduct” due to the use of profanity.
But the way they handled the situation was anything but fair.
She was promised a chance to meet with the General Manager to advocate for herself. That meeting never happened.
Instead, she was told by HR that she was being terminated for “misconduct” and “public embarrassment to the hotel.”
She worked a full shift the next day (June 3) and gave a detailed statement to Salamander HR. They told her not to speak to hotel staff about the incident — they would “handle it.”
That evening, she was told to leave the hotel and moved to alternate intern housing.
🚨 A 19-year-old Black intern was harassed, blocked in a secured space by hotel guests at Home2 Suites Leesburg — while on FaceTime with her mother. She screamed for staff to call police. They never did. She was later terminated by Salamander Resort.
