Everywhere I go across our City, Philadelphians talk to me about housing.

They want an opportunity to buy a home. They are fighting to keep the home they have, but they need help repairing or restoring it.

That need led us to create H.O.M.E., our historic $2 billion initiative to build, repair and preserve 30,000 units of housing across Philadelphia.

Philadelphia must remain a city where working people can afford to live and raise their families.

From seven faithful members in 1876 to a church family of more than 15,000 strong today, @enontab has spent 150 years worshiping, serving and strengthening generations.

Last week, @PhillyMayor signed an Executive Order creating a Data Center Task Force.

The City also shared more about its long-term vision for how we handle our trash.

And nearly 70 community organizations make a mission to recruit 1,000 Black men to mentor across Philly.

We were delighted to welcome more than 2,000 airport professionals to the City of Brotherly Love and Sisterly Affection for the @airportscouncil Annual Conference and Exhibition this week.

@PHLAirport has connected our region to the world for more than 80 years — and this Summer, we showed that in a big way.

PHL has a long history, a strong Philadelphia identity, and a story that continues to evolve.

Today, visible modernization improvements are underway, backed by a historic $2 billion investment that honors PHL’s past while preparing the airport and our region for the future.

The next chapter of PHL is already taking shape. ✈️

Saturday night, I joined the @LegacyOfHopePHL’s #PHL24 family at the Art Museum steps to support @KimberlySReed and the athletes taking on this extraordinary challenge.

For 24 straight hours, athletes climbed those steps to support families fighting cancer. Through the day. Through the night. Step after step. That kind of commitment means something.

Legacy of Hope provides emergency financial assistance to cancer patients and their families, helping with food, housing, transportation, utilities, and other essential needs during treatment.

Families facing cancer should never feel like they have to carry that fight alone. Thank you to Legacy of Hope founder, Mike Rowe and every athlete, volunteer, supporter, and family who showed up with purpose.

The Art Museum steps are a challenge on any day. Taking them on for 24 hours in service to others is something special.

Keep climbing, Philly. And keep lifting others as you go.

Before Philadelphia considers any major data center proposal, we need to understand the facts, identify the right safeguards and fully hear residents’ concerns.

That’s why I signed an executive order creating a Data Center Task Force to do all three.

Its work will help ensure Philadelphia is prepared, our neighborhoods are protected and residents have a meaningful voice from the start.

Philadelphia is an old city, which means many of our school buildings are old.

Addressing decades of infrastructure needs won’t happen overnight, but we are making progress. @PHLschools has reduced the number of schools without adequate air conditioning from 118 to 52 — the work continues.

Today, our Philly champion @JalenHurts stepped up to help us keep that progress moving.

Jalen and his @JalenHurtsFound are investing $600,000 to help upgrade the cooling system at Northeast High School — the largest high school in Philadelphia.

I told our young people today: when someone says you matter, you should be able to see, touch and feel what that commitment looks like.

This is what it looks like.

Last season, when we announced that @Unrivaledwbb was coming to Philadelphia, there was one big question: Would Philly show up? Well, you didn't just show up, you broke the @XMobileArena’s all-time attendance record for a women’s sporting event with 21,480 total fans!

Now, Unrivaled is officially coming back to our great city next year, on February 15th.

Philadelphia is experiencing historic lows in violence and overdoses, and our community-based organizations deserve real credit for helping us get there and stay there. They know their neighborhoods. They have the relationships. They’re doing the work.

They are an essential part of our P.I.E. approach to public safety: Prevention, Intervention and Enforcement, and it is our job is to help make sure they have the resources to keep going and grow their impact.

That’s why we’re now accepting applications for our 2027 cycle of @opsphl grants, with $25 million available and awards ranging from $10,000 to $1 million.

On Labor Day, Thompson Street became part of Philadelphia labor history.

More than 50 years ago, Samuel “Sam” Staten Jr. began as a field laborer. Today, he is a vice president of LIUNA and business manager of Laborers’ Local 332. Alongside the men and women of @laborers_pbwdc_rising , he has spent his life opening doors and fighting for working families.

For me, this moment was personal. Sam Jr. and his late father, Sam Staten Sr., have been giants in Philadelphia’s labor community and longtime friends and allies of mine. Sam Sr. opened doors for me and helped make things happen in my life. I will always be grateful.

Ten years after we named Wallace Street for Sam Sr., we unveiled Samuel “Sam” Staten Jr. Way on Thompson Street. Another chapter of the Staten family legacy is now written into the streets of North Philadelphia.

But one honor was not enough. I presented Sam with the Key to the City. Then, as Ashli Rice sang “Wind Beneath My Wings,” we surprised him with a portrait honoring the legacy he inherited and the one he continues to build.

Thank you to Ryan Boyer of the Philadelphia Building Trades and Laborers’ District Council; Local 332 leaders Cory Robinson, John McCarty, Malik Staten and Gracia Louis; Willie Singletary for organizing on behalf of the Mayor’s Office; Ashli Rice; the @westphillyhsband ; @councilmemberjyoungjr ; and everyone who gave Sam and the Staten family the celebration they deserved.

Sam has spent his life helping others rise. Now, generations to come will see his name and know what he has meant to this city.

I have stood with Labor for a very long time, so Labor Day always carries special meaning for me.

I spent time across Philadelphia with labor leaders and members from dozens of unions, celebrating Union pride and their collective hard work that makes Philadelphia strong.

The municipal union workers who clean our streets, pick up our trash, keep our City safe, educate our children and do so many other things. The building trades unions who make our skyline grow. Every union member who contributes to life in our great City.

Philly is a Union town and I am a pro-labor, pro-Union Mayor!

One moment that meant a great deal today was honoring Sam Staten Jr. and the Staten family. Sam Jr. and his late father, Sam Staten Sr., have been giants in Philadelphia’s labor and community, and longtime friends and allies of mine. Seeing that family legacy placed permanently on a Philadelphia street was a powerful reminder of what they have meant to this city.

I’m also very proud of the people in the Parker administration who help lead our city every day. From Chief of Staff Tiffany W. Thurman to Managing Director Carlton Williams, Chief Deputy Mayor Vanessa Garrett Harley, and every senior city leader who joined me today, thank you for your service to Philadelphia. And to our 29,000-person city workforce, thank you always for everything you do!

Music has always been part of my heart and soul. And there was no way I was going to let this historic 2026 year pass without honoring three men whose music helped define the sound of this city and carry Philadelphia around the world: Kenny Gamble, Leon Huff and Thom Bell.

At The Dell, a place that holds such a special place in the heart of Black Philadelphia and our musical history, I was proud to present each of these legends with a Liberty Bell, and to honor Kenny Gamble with the Key to the City of Philadelphia.

Their music gave us words for love, struggle, unity and possibility.

“People all over the world. Join hands. Start a love train”

“Ain’t No Stoppin’ Us Now.”

“Wake Up Everybody.”

“You Make Me Feel Brand New.”

That is more than a soundtrack. That is Philadelphia.

Thank you to the near-capacity crowd that filled the Dell with love, and to our incredible co-hosts @MsPattyJackson, Lady B and @MIMIBROWN3 for guiding us through such a special night.

One more deal for Philadelphia. 🛍️

@Burlington is making our city its new corporate home, bringing up to 2,000 good jobs with family-sustaining wages and a $370 million private investment.

The City is investing $8 million to help make it happen, including $1 million through @SEPTAPHILLY Key Advantage to support unlimited transit access for Burlington employees for one year.

A big thank you to @GovernorShapiro, @PADCEDnews Secretary Rick Siger, Karen Fegely and @phlcommerce, Jerry Sweeney and @BrandywineRlty, and Burlington CEO Michael O’Sullivan for the partnership that helped bring this major investment home to Philadelphia.

Burlington already has eight stores across our city.
